Re: Puget Sound Weekend
I spend a lot of time in the Hood Canal. Good Camping at Seal Rock or Dosewallips. Great boat ramp just down the road at Triton Cove. Excellent moorage at Pleasant Harbor. Crabbing seasons are irregular, but I guess that goes for the whole sound. Lots of wildlife. Lake Cushman is just aways away, and Port Townsend is a nice drive up North. Good hiking and biking trails, birdwatching (lots of Eagles up by Pulali Pt.)
Great place to SCUBA dive as well.
Slower pace than a lot of Puget Sound, but I like that. I'm sure there are plenty of great places in Puget Sound, Hood Canal has always been easier for me, especially for diving since the tides are negligible with current. Since you turn off at Olympia, traffic is gerally better to and from.
