Lake Cushman or Hood Canal advice?

I'm taking the family (wife + three daughters) to Lake Cushman next week. Any advice on good fishing opportunities? I plan to troll for Kokanee with the standard gear. Any advice (areas, etc.) for getting the kids into some fish would be appreciated.

I was also planning on putting in at Hood Canal. I don't know if anything is running there now or not.

I have used the search engine and also looked at Washingtonlakes.com and Picsatorial Pursuit, but there is limited information.

Any advice for this area would be appreciated.

Having gone to the canal a few times there's nothing more fun for kids than digging hard shell steamer clams. They are only an inch or two deep and easy to dig. Its a good place for crabs. On a minus tide you can walk in the shallows and catch them.
Note: they're not smart, but they're fast and like to pitch.

I think they may have landlocked Chinook up there in the lake. Been up there once but never fished it. Try the other board (PP), you may find more detailed info.

I was thinking about taking the kids clamming. I also think it would be a blast to watch my 3 year old try and chase down crabs (as long as she does not get pinched!). Do you have any favorite beaches or areas to try?

Keep in mind that bottom fishing in Hood Canal is completely closed until further notice (low oxygen levels). It does open for salmon season--check the regs to find out the specifics of the openings and other restrictions.

Here is link to Cushman Boats . They have a fishing report and in the past before I've headed up there I've emailed them for current conditions and they have responded fairly quickly.
