Default Free Stren line!

10lb around a 150 yards left. Oh, you can have the rest that is on my rod as well. Chose to buy this from Sportsman after all the Maxima was gone. Then proceeded down to NFN and wouldn't you know it, the only fish I hook breaks me Off!! So I will never, ever go without my Ultra Green again.. Ended up loosing like 5 hot shots in all. Costly day to say the least. Oh, and if you were down there on Monday what was up with that guy being a Rock Hog at the deadline fishing w/ his 18 pack of beer!! I was embarassed for him. but oh well at least he caught a BUZZ

I had the same experience. Tried it once because they were out of what I use. I will never touch that stuff again. I have never had a problem with knot strength or breaking off on a fish until I put that line on. Stren

I love the clear/blue stren. Have only really had problems with the 4 lb test for trout. However, I just bought some 12 lb low visibility stren line....that stuff is absolute crap! It has the worst memory of any line I've ever used! I'll stick with the clear/blue.
Hey Lucky,
Two questions:
a) How big was the fish you hooked and lost?
b) Have you ever lost a fish due to breakage on any other line?

Reminds me of Berkly Vanish, hook a fish and it Vanishes off into the water with your gear.

I have never broke a steelhead off with Maxima 15lb nor have I ever broke a salmon off on Maxima 20lb. Maxima is the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with Sparkleboy. Stren clear blue is the original mono. Stren Original was Rated #1 among monofilaments tested by Sport Fishing Magazine.

Quote from article.
"However, ranked third among all 85 lines was our top monofilament Stren Original (proving you can't always improve on a good thing) which far outlasted any challenger, falling just five cycles short of a phenomenal 1,300-cycle average to break. (Its thicker diameter accounts for an abrasion-strength rating slightly below the two braids.) Interestingly, Stren Original also scored very high in our 1998 abrasion test of 8-pound lines, finishing second."

Sport Fishing article

Low Memory, Great Knot Strength great all around lineand you have to love the new low sheen clear, talk about invisable.

Well no I will not pay anyone to take this off my hands. Sparkle boy, I am not sure how big it was, the fight was less than thirty seconds. The fish took my hot shot in waterfall pool and was thrashing hard and then it jumped, I could have used to much muscle, OR i thought wow I should have wet that knot down when I tied it. But all day long I was breaking the line. Like I said I lost 4 other hot shots. Usually if I snag up one of those, I just ease up and it floats out. I should have bought heavier line. I was just very disappointed. I switched to ULTRA Green last year and caught Way more fish than usual. Second answer, I can't remember losing a fish to a line failure before, I CAN give you a ton of other reasons I have lost fish.

Were you using the clear/blue line, or another Stren line?
Hey, at least you hooked a fish, but that is a pretty tough day on the ol' tacklebox and wallet.

Original blue #1??? HAHAHAHAHA. YEAH FREAKIN RIGHT!! That's like saying Berkley Ironsilk is a good line. To quote Dr. Evil, "How 'bout NO!" The only Stren line I like is Magnathin.

My only good experience with Stren are the High Impact and High Impact Florocarbon. Both of these line have not failed on me. With quit a few chinooks and steelheads.

It was Magnathin. 10lb clear. Guess, I was horsin that fish, I just put the line on the night before. However like I said, I found the line weak and broke off several times all day long. Stopped by the necancium as well. Saw a few fish, but no bitters.

It sound like you had a reason to be unhappy . Stren 10# should not break that easy . I have used it most of my life and never had that kind of a problem . Drop me an e-mail . I would like to fill up your reel and have you give it another try .. Free is a very good price .

Remember, 10lb magnathin is similar diameter to 6lb ultra green or someting like that. I used to run 16lb magna main and 12 magna leader with pretty good results. You can't run 10lb magna and not expect to lose plugs. Where magnathin shines is on spinning reels. The memory is much less than maxima. Anything else and your're comparing apples to oranges.
