+50 miles and more
I have heard a few more reports of Tuna but they are all still +50 miles out. It maybe tempting for all who have been reading about, talking about, buying boats, gear and dreaming of Tuna to saddle up and give it a go but 50 miles out is a LONG way to go learn how to catch TUNA. The Ocean conditions are not optimal for a long trip this weekend and there are still 3 months of TUNA to be had. They will be coming in and there are going to be better days. Not to dampen anyones' enthusiasm but where the fish are now is a long way out. The learning curve is pretty steep that far out.
Maybe some other input from the Tuna hardened skippers might be of help too.
On another note there are also some good signs of salmon on the N end of the Pile.
Good Luck to everyone this weekend.

Re: +50 miles and more
Walt,
I am not a "hardened skipper" yet but will add my nickle. Few are as crazy about Tuna! as I am, but I am not going to go unless the weather is really good. I didn't go this last week and I have hoped that the ocean would take a break for the 4th weekend but it is not looking that great. I have been out past 50 several times and it IS a darn long way to run. It is even further when you are tired and facing time at the carking station! Anyone who goes please be careful and take a lesson from some of the best skippers and be willing to change plans and/or turn around and return if things are not as nice as you had hoped. 150 Tuna! are an easy target without going past the deep shelf out there...July-September there are a lot of fabulous days to fish.

Re: +50 miles and more
Thanks Walter for the info. I agree with you, going out 50 or more miles to look for tuna is iffy (for me at least), especially wtih these weather conditions. I'll wait a while longer.

Re: +50 miles and more
Your right!! Salty Walty, I espically don't want anyone with limited experience, going 50+ miles out in a small boat like mine. I know I often push the limits of my boat, & my body, but I don't want anybody putting themselves in danger cause of me. There is sooo much preperation needed for a long trip out to sea. I study the weather like a meteroligist, watch bouy reports sometimes hourly, always pick a hardy crew, still mother nature can & will take lives every year. this angel symbol I use alot on my posts, it's also a symbol of my wife, I always tell her she's an angel. & if your nice to an angel, they will bring you good luck.

I agree the trend is not looking great for a long haul, but Im hopeful. If Friday looks too iffy we will bounch around and go for butts and if thats too risky we'll go for breakfast in Newport.
