Default Rigging Feathers & Clones

I scored a few of the jigs at Fishermans and am starting to get them rigged. Pilars post shows just attaching hooks and a loop at the other end with a perfect loop. Other magizine articles and pics show a swivel either tied or crimped on the rod end, and a swivel slid between the double hooks to connect the leader to.

Is there a "best" way? does it matter?

John, have to say thanks for the pics and articles.... Just got my handlines made up! The neighbors think I am crazy, sitting in the boat (on the trailer in the driveway) with blue cord stretched from each cleat and a jig on each end!!

You are welcome for the tips hope it helps others too. You can buy handlines premade now. But you could not when I did the photo essay.

I dunno I like simple. I'm still rigging the jigs like the old dude at the Fishermans marine on Columbia Blvd showed me like 10 years ago. What impressed me was he only spent about a minute on rigging each one I bought. A perfect loop at each end and go. Set the hook trail point behind the jig with the size of the jig end loop .... and go.

Use all the other stuff you want and everyone has thier way of doing things. K.I.S.S. is what I like and that's what I do.

If you want some real looks .. lay out your gear and troll up the Willy with a full spread at 6 kts. That'll make those guys in the office buildings downtown stand at the window and stare.

It's actually a "perfection loop"....Pilar is just an efficient guy & saves his energy by shortening words sometimes.

It's listed here, along with others:

http://www.marlinnut.com/knots/index.shtml

Also listed is the San Diego Jam Knot, which is my all-time favorite knot for just about anything, from 4 lb test to 300 lb test.

I will second the San Diego Jam knot. I like a swivel on my hook and a few tri-beads between that swivel and the clone to get proper hook placement. A swivel at the other end and you are ready to go.

I only do this with leaders 80 pound and under, over that I crimp.
