Cambell River info needed
I'm taking a trip up to NE Vancouver Island in a week. On my way to the lodge I am staying at starting Monday, I will be spending two nights and one day in Cambell River. Does anyone have any advice on where to stay in Cambell River... and more importantly any good info or advice on where to fish on Sunday out of Cambell River?
Who's the local that can help me out?
Much Thanks!!!
Dave

I did a search for "Campbell River" in this forum and came up with 6 threads. Here is one of them: http://www.ifish.net/forum/showflat....vc=1#Post16745

I dont think the Campbell river area is what it used to be. I would look at Berkley or Nootka sounds on the other side of the island.

Phone James Holland at the River Sportsman, 1-800-663-7217. It is a great sporting goods store. I stay at the Towne Centre Inn, on Dogwood. It is secure, fairly inexpensive and walking distance to some very good eating places on the waterfront. They supply free breakfast and dinner coupons which worth about $10.00.
The Roderick Haig-Brown museum is there and could be a good place to get a little history.

Try looking into Painters Lodge.
I havn't been there for a few years but it was a great place to fish.
Barkly and Nootka sound are a few hours away and may not work in that short of time.
Good luck!
I wish I was going with you

My wife and I had a terrific stay and fish out of Dolphins Resort. We were treated very well indeed. You might want to become a member of the Tyee Club also.

I've fished out of Painters Lodge for the last 12 years and am a member of the Tyee club. Dolphins is nice but doesn't compare to Painters. You really can't go wrong. Your going to be a little early for the big ones though. I usually always go the 2nd or 3rd week of July and have never been skunked.

Re: Cambell River info needed
We stayed in Campbell River for a few days in late June a couple years ago. I didn't fish, but I checked it out a little. I don't remember seeing any bank angling going on, it was mostly out in the bigger water with boats. Boat rentals were very expensive, something like $250 per day. We ate lunch at the Painters lodge, and their guides were catching plenty of fish, but most of them were in the mid to high teens, nothing big. That may be a run timing thing though.
We stayed at the Best Western Austrian Chalet Village at the far end of town. Nothing fancy but it worked and had a good view of the inside passage from there. There is a nice walking/jogging path that runs along the water that is great for a morning jog or evening walk. Plus watching the cruise ships come through there at night was pretty impressive. Lots of bald eagles in the area, so bring your binocs and camera.

Re: Cambell River info needed
I was going to say the Tyee Pool. I'm a member of the club, caught a 38lb following club rules and registered in advance. Day we fished the pool was the largest number of qualifying fish caught in one day that year (1983) in August and I got the largest. Course the day before a gal landed a 63lb fish that dwarfed mine. Man that fish ate good - we fished the sound mostly from a Boston Whaler - loved it. Have fun can't remember the specifics of where we stayed but the fishing was cool!
