Crescent Lake Report : 6/23 thru 6/25
Went up to Crescent Lake Thursday for the first time this year, and found that the Kokanee fishing had slowed down from earlier reports, and the ODF report (which is always at least 10 days behind anyway). The weather was great, about 70 degrees at Spring Campground, and the wind allowed fishing in the afternoons, except for Friday when it blew everybody off the lake from noon til dark. Very powerful N.W. wind! The fish ran good size, about 14", but took alot of effort to hook. Most everyone was trolling, not many boats considering the warm weather, and there were only a couple of us "die-hard" jiggers. I found a good concentration of fish in the mornings by the summer homes, but couldn't get them to bite. I could see alot of fish around 80'-90' deep, and dropped my jig over, under, and beside them, but they wouldn't pick it up. The trollers that I talked to had no success with these deep-runners either. I finally started catching fish by getting out in the middle of the lake, and watching for a fish or two in the 30'-40' ( depth very important), trolling very slowly with my jig already out, then stopping and jigging immediately. The problem was not many fish were cruising at this depth, you could go along time without seeing any, so a limit of fish was a difficult, but enjoyable. I did manage an all-day limit Thursday and Saturday, with only one fish Friday. A fish caught once every two and a half hours is being generous! If any other I-fishers fished Crescent theses three days, I'd be interested in your reports, I didn't see any other I-fish decals out there. All in all a great trip, great weather, friendly camping neighbors, and very challenging angling!
