Blacktail pics
Here are the pictures of my buck. Sorry they didn't scan better and the garage shot really doesn't do justice to the animal, but here it is.

Re: Blacktail pics
Nice buck. I had a shot at one that big once. I started shacking all over and missed. Buck fever.

Re: Blacktail pics
Just like the one I wanted to shoot. You ought to have that one scored. I've seen a couple of record book blacktails, and yours is certainly in the ballpark. Congratulations!

Re: Blacktail pics
Philosophically, its too bad, in a way, that you got that buck. Even though you are young, you will probably hunt the rest of your life and not get another blacktail buck like that one.

Re: Blacktail pics
WHAT!!!! YOU CUT HIS HEAD OFF AT THE NECK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good God son! That is a true trophy, and should be on the wall intact--not as a horn mount. Heck, I'da paid to have it mounted for you if you'd let me keep it in my house long enough for all my friends to have seen it. I've got some dandy's, including a 20", 128" buck west of I-5, but nothing quite that nice. My friend did get one out of my honey hole this year I think'll make book.
I'm guessing he came from the Cascades, not the Coast or Valley, and probably from Southern Oregon. 21-22", and will score around 140 w/o deductions. If he's a true Blacktail, that'll get you in BC. Tell me what you can about your hunt--w/o divulging too awful much

Re: Blacktail pics
Great buck!! You should have him measured. I'll say about 135" before deductions.

Re: Blacktail pics
That is a beauty BirdHunter.
Forget what those other guys said, just make sure the one you shoot next year is bigger.

Re: Blacktail pics
Thanks for all the nice comments. Posted the story on the hunt: here. Took me so long to get to him after the first time I saw him, most of my buck fever had passed. Calm easy shot. Had to sit down a while after I got up to him though. I haven't had the buck scored yet and initally wasn't planning on it, but now I might have changed my mind. He's 19 3/4 " wide and 14" tall. The pictures dont' show it real well, but he's pretty thick too, 5" circ. at the base of each antler. I've seen some southern Oregon deer that would make this one look puny, but this guy is pure blacktail. He was taken along the lower Clackamas River Thanksgiving weekend on a Willamette additional deer tag. Tried to drag him out in halves but that didn't work. Took long enough packing him out on my own. Seriously considered caping him out and doing a head mount, but I don't have the funds for it. Not to toot my own horn because this is definately a great buck and by far my biggest, but you should see some of the other racks we've got in our house. He'll fit in nicely on the wall.
