Ok in Oregon? Doe with a rack?
I saw this on another Hunting page and got to wondering if it would even be legal to kill in Oregon.
Doe with a rack here
I know it would be with an either sex tag but what about the buck tags? I believe they say One buck deer with a visible antler or not less that a forked antler. So then a doe with a rack would be breaking the law here?
Jon

Re: Ok in Oregon? Doe with a rack?
I can only guess, but my guess is yes it would be legal. At the ranges the guys on this board claim they shoot, a buck would have to be........HMMMMM how shall I say this................."pretty big" to be able to see not only his horns but his.........the rest of him.

Re: Ok in Oregon? Doe with a rack?
Buck Deer is defined as a deer with a visible anlter in the regs, so this would have to be legal in OR.

Re: Ok in Oregon? Doe with a rack?
Since Oregon does not require you to leave sexual organs attached to the meat, how would anyone ever know, unless you told them?
Western Nebraska is home to some huge bucks. My cousins hunt out there every year, and come home time after time with some big ones.

Re: Ok in Oregon? Doe with a rack?
I killed a buck that had no testicles in Montana a few years back. He had deformed antlers and still in velvet in November. Locals said bucks like that was quite common in that area around Lewistown. Buck was also really tasty.
NorRivDav,
Latest Ore regs are out, view them ODFW website. They did change the rules this year! Sex organs attached are now required.

Sounds like a smarter than average cop to me.
What were his choices. No win for him and probably anyone involved.

Re: Ok in Oregon? Doe with a rack?
My dad tells the story of killing a buck with no horns. Thought it was a doe, only to find the jewels when gutting it out.

Re: Ok in Oregon? Doe with a rack?
The only real reason for keeping the sex organs is for proof of sex. usually means only the testes and ***** I belive....

Re: Ok in Oregon? Doe with a rack?
I shot a four point in Eastern Oregon some years ago like this. The biologist I spoke to simply explained. "sometimes "they" just don't drop." It was definetly not a doe. Had just a pin size little ***** and no testicals.

Re: Ok in Oregon? Doe with a rack?
A co-worker of mine, his uncle, shot a Cow Elk that had a an antler coming out of her forehead like a unicorn. He showed me a old newspaper clipping from southern Oregon.
You had to see it to believe it! It was perfectly legal according to the game department!
