Its a sad day when..............
Driving down the street today when I looked over at some boys riding their bikes. One of them said a few choice 4 letter words at me.
Now all that for looking at someone?
The strange part is......he was just barely big enough to sit on the bike and it still had its training wheels on. Couldnt have been 4 years old if that.
What is up with parents these days?.....My word...what is that young boy going grow up like?
I cant believe it, That people cant look in the mirror at their self and not think they are doing something good for their kids.
Just a sad state of affairs......

I'm glad you said it - the parents. They deserve a smack upside the head for not doing their job.

I would slammed on the brakes (best if you dont have ABS), jumped out and headed towards him...would be fun to see how fast he could peddle with fear in his eyes.

Was he drinking a beer and smoking a cigarette too?
The cycle repeats itself unless the parents break it.
The parents of that child are probably some of the same people that celebrate at the beach in Lincoln city on 4th of July!

Re: Its a sad day when..............
It is sad...and it's all about the parents...what is up with all of that ? As a kid I taught to respect my parents, do what they tell me to do, and respect adults. I can recall saying a bad word in front of my big sister (tattle tail ) she told my mom and when my dad got home, off came his belt....and some of you know the rest of the story. The way some kids are being raised is just amazing....but there is also a lot of good kids to.

Re: Its a sad day when..............
It's interesting you bring this up at this time. Just yesterday afternoon, my 17 year old son was playing basketball with some "friends". When he got home he realized he had forgotten his wallet by the play area. We went back to look for it and to my surprise it was still there. However, someone had already been through it and had taken his money out of it. When we asked the children playing around if they saw anobody take the money, they were quick to give us a desription of a few kids they saw mess with it. Well, we tracked down the boys they said took it and confronted them. Needless to say, no one would admit to it until I started talking law enforcement. Then one of them told us that one of the other kids in their group took the money. When we told him to give the money back he continued to deny that he took it even though his friend was telling him to give it back. Nobody ever admitted taking it and all this time they are using foul language and not showing any respect at all. It was only $11.00 but it burns me up. My son works hard for his money. I know because he works for me to get it. After all was said and done, we left. No money back. It was all I could do to hold back from throttling the little "fellow". I finally just told them that I hope they are happy taking something from a hard working person when they did nothing to earn it and I hope they are proud of themselves.
I guess this is kind of a rant, but it kind of goes back to the parent thing. If those kids had been taught or were being taught some values, maybe (big maybe) they would have not taken it.

Re: Its a sad day when..............
What parents ?
They are probably divorced.
My daughters were the only kids out a group of families at our school that they hung with who's parents didn't get divorced. All these other kids got into drugs, pregnant etc.
I used to tell my daughters. " Imagine a Fifteen year old girl with no parents trying to raise an illegitimate child.
That baby won't have a chance.
That's what you see running around all over the place.
Illegitimate Children with illegitimate parents and on and on and on.

Re: Its a sad day when..............
My wife got home from grocery shopping the other day and couldn't find her purse. After searching with no luck she finally suspected that she had left it in the shopping cart in the store parking lot. She went back to the store, probably an hour from the time she had left it. The kid that collects the shopping carts had turned the purse in to the manager without even opening it. He is a teenager making minimum wage doing a rather unpleasant job. The only thing stopping him from taking the purse and the contents was his conscience. This kid goes to high school with mine so we happen to know him and his family, but he didn't know whose purse it was. He acted just as I would have expected he would. I good kid with a stable family. That's the future of America. Hopefully there are enough of him to rule the other side.

Re: Its a sad day when..............
So before we completely lynch the parents (oops, too late), consider this.
Young kid riding his bike, he sees a car drive slowly by with a guy looking at him. Predator? Abductor? Who knows...and he's been trained that its better to be safe than sorry...so he makes it VERY clear that he is NOT going to talk to this guy no matter what.
In this case, which you have to admit is just as likely as not, the child AND his parents should be applauded for doing a great job. Its all in your pespective...glass half full or empty, and maybe its just easier to assume the worst in people, who knows.

Re: Its a sad day when..............
I understand what your saying C/T but there are alot better ways to teach your child about "STRANGER DANGER" than to tell your children to swear at people even if they look at you. Not saying the child was taught to swear but that word even comming out of a child mouth is messed up. Ken

Re: Its a sad day when..............
If that were your child, and hypothetically the dude in the car was some kind of weirdo....would you still be mad at your child for sternly swearing at him?
I hear what you're saying that the language is fowl, but if he only uses it in those kinds of situations, then its not so bad.

No offense CT.. but the kid drops the "F" bomb and now we're taking the glass half-full approach that he's "protecting" himself from a predator?.... I ain't buyin' it even if I wasn't there.

Jarhead...er....I mean Aggie... I said that it should be considered a possibility.
Besides, why would anyone want to waste their time criticizing other peoples kids? Sure, if your family is 100% perfect then criticize away, but seeing as how we will all mess up in different ways, we shouldnt go around criticizing (how about a glass house theory for ya?).

Depending on my mood, id have gotten out and smacked the kid. Who cares, just get back in your car and drive off. Theres alot of punks out there who in my opinion would be better off if you just steered your car into them.

And two other kids there too.....not to much danger in that.

Re: Its a sad day when..............
I couldn't disagree more with you CT. He shouldn't even know those words at that age.
Dimwits story gives us hope. When I lost my wallet a while back and it was returned, I insisted the guy take 20.00 from me and also brought him a jar of jam my wife had made.
On the other hand, my cell phone was picked up by some teenagers while I was in the theater restroom and they insisted they didn't take it and began acting tough so, I called the manager and they removed the teens from the movie and he called the police. In the mean time I had my buddy call the phone and it rang from inside one of the little hooligans pants so he ran off and threw it in a garbage can before the cops arrived! Crud balls!

Re: Its a sad day when..............
I my day if you talked like that you better be able to run faster than the other guy or take a beating. I remember throwing a water ballon from the bushes at a guy driving a new 66 Impala convertable,Robin's Egg Blue. He was a short guy with curley hair and lamb chop side burns late 20's early 30's . I hit him right in the head. He hit the brakes so fast I barely had time to high tail it. I could hear him gaining on me. I was fast but he was faster. I knew I was about to die. At the last minute I reached out and grabbed the low hanging branch of a cedar tree and it helped me make an otherwise inpossible direction change. I swung around on the branch and headed the opposite direction. By the time he slowed down I had a distance advantage. I ran like the devil for the woods and and the long way home. I was 8 years old. If he would have caught me he could of and would have beat the tar out of me and every adult would have said I deserved what I got. I was a little jumpy doing stuff like that from that day on.

That's smooth, Sometimes kids are just monsters (or the opposite) all on their own. But usually they learn what they are taught.

True...no real nicknames for any other school really. Funny thing was, you'd only make the jarhead joke from a moving car or online (assuming you knew what was good for ya). All I can remember about Baylor jokes was referring to it as Jerusalem on the Brazos.

I don't care who was in the car. It could of been Lucifer for all I care. They have no way of knowing who is in the car.If my kids ever did that I want the driver to tell me.My kids would make a very public apoligy then they will deal with my wrath at home. Ask any teacher and they will tell you that parents send their kids to school for the teachers to raise It's sad You need a licence to fish but not to raise kids . sounds a little backwards to me

Mad Mikey, you aren't the only one that got the wooden spoon!! If we did that to our kids, we would be in jail for child abuse!! And the kids nowadays know it!!

Dude... DUDE - the Naptha! I kinda acquired a taste for dial...
At some point in my youth I started to laugh when getting a spoon to the hide... it hurt but I'd laugh and get more. Then I got big enough that my mom would break the spoons - more laughter... then I got slapped right across the kisser. I laughed no more.
Why I pushed my mom's buttons sometimes I will never know.
Glad she loved me enough to discipline me.

Gee officer, he rode his bike right under my car!!! Oh my! Just kidding!
I remember walking home from school in grade school, some of the high schoolers would pick on us, heaven forbid you ever smart mouthed them. You learned to respect your elders, even if they were only a few years older. Of coarse time has a way of evening out the playing field, where are those guys now!
