Default Salmon Protection at risk*

From NSIA

FRIENDS--

As we expected, Judge Redden and the 9th circuit court have upheld decisions to help our NW salmon. We can begin to restore balance to the system that has held back our salmon populations and salmon economies for decades. This is all at risk, because we are hearing that the Senate may write our salmon victories right out of existence! Please help us and the salmon by making a quick call or e-mail to your senators today!

Urge your US Senators to safeguard a recent court decision that moves salmon recovery forward! Urge them to support salmon recovery!

In America's Pacific northwest, salmon have been a vital celebrated cultural and economic heritage. They create family wage jobs, sustain cultures and communities, and contribute to the economic and cultural health of the region. We need a recovery plan that will actually pencil out for recovery and bring fish back to our rivers.

We need the U. S. Senate to support a federal court's recent decision invalidating a flawed federal salmon plan. This decision our region's opportunity to craft a plan that actually works for salmon, communities, and local economies in the Northwest.

The court's decision is vulnerable to attack as we speak; there's a chance that some elected officials could interfere with this recent court ruling by undermining the court's decision through backdoor legislative maneuvers. Please contact your senators today and urge them to defend this important victory for America's remaining salmon and for our economic and cultural heritage!

THIS IS ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT IN WASHINGTON, IDAHO AND OREGON, BUT PLEASE FORWARD IT TO ANYONE ON YOUR LIST!

Thank you!

Yours in service,
Liz Hamilton, Executive Director

Sample Note: (the more PERSONAL, the BETTER!)

Honorable Senator Murray,

My name is:________________. I live in _________, Washington, Salmon are important to me and my family because (job, family memories, environment, vacations, whatever reason, just write WHY this is important to you. It's very important to personalize and speak about yourself!)

I am writing to support Judge Reddens' decision to throw out the overturning the federal salmon plan. This decision is an opportunity for our region to write a salmon plan that works for our families and our jobs. So far, federal efforts to recover Pacific salmon and steelhead have been status quo, and salmon populations continue to decline toward extinction.

I am counting on you to support salmon recovery by defending this recent court decision, and to oppose any efforts to undermine it in Congress. Now is the time for the Northwest to come together to craft a real plan for Pacific salmon recovery, and I am looking toward your leadership on this critically important issue. Thank you in advance for your help,

For those seemingly well intentioned politicians in Washington DC that coined the phrase Eco Terrorist. Please look in the mirror and see what a real eco terrorists looks like.
Like I've said many times, the biggest threat to our fish runs comes from our own government.

I think Edward Abbey coined the phrase "Eco Terrorist" (or at least the idea). However, I agree with your sentiment. Plus, I thought this deserved a bump. Hayduke Lives! Rudolph the Red.

(PS. Does the CIA really scan the internet looking for possible threats? Um, if the CIA is scanning this for pinko flags, I'm actually just a depressed republican that's tired of fighting the same fights to save our valuable salmon... and I've never blown anything up.)

The very fact that politicians are making some really bad dissisions concerning our Columbia River fish stocks, might have a bearing on the subject matter of the post.
The present admininstration has taken upon itself to try to regulate our native stocks into extintion. They have choosen big energy and agriculture over fish.
So if this sparks polictical debate, so be it.
The fact is ifishers do not care about what is going on, concerning the future of our fish runs. And the folks that do post are part of the dozen or so that attend the meetings. Sealions are just one subject that ifishers feel is more important, there's snagging and zipper lip fishing holes as well.

Freespool I do love your passion towards these beautiful fish. I to have the same passion. I would give up alot of comforts to see the runs of yesterday, but the fact of the matter is this country has probally reached capacity. With urban development taking place further outside the cities and closer towards national forest land one can not help but feel that there is not really much we can do. You can always say make your voice heard at the polls but honestly is that really going to make a difference. I am not saying that every politician is corrupt but it takes a majority vote in either a state congress or in washington dc. I hate to say it but so called big energy is probally always going to win. Us fisherman and women are just a small voice compared to millions upon millions of house holds that rely on cheap energy. I am not sure if people are willing to pay more for energy to protect a fish that the majority of americans dont even know exists. I really do appreciate your passion I just am not sure if the outcome will ever be different.
