Default Heading to Sunriver (report)

I'm heading over to the Sunriver area tomorrow for a week of fishing. I'm planning on fishing some of the lakes, and rivers around there. I'm definately going to East Lake to fish for some kokanee, browns, and rainbows w/ callibaetis, and the upper Deschutes for some brookies and bows w/ dry flies. I may go to a couple other places if time allows, but I'm going to have to do some activities other than fishing. I'll be sure to post a report when I get back.

Clacksteel39,
We fished the northern shore of east lake during the callibaetis hatch on Saturday and did pretty well. Nothing too large this time, but lots of action. Considering that I was trying to wrangle soon to be 5 and 3 year olds, I was surprised we even made it on the water! There were fish rising from the big cliffs all the way to the northwestern corner of the lake from 11-3. You can play 9 holes at Quail Run and be on the lake in time to hit the peak of the hatch!
Good Luck!
TF

I ended up fishing almost everyday of the week long trip to Sunriver. First I flogged the Deschutes around Sunriver the night I arrived. I had a couple rises and ended up catching a nice brown and rainbow trout on a local fly called a Princess Die (dry fly that imitates a caddis/beetle/ant). The next day I headed to the Fall River (just for a look), but once I saw the fish there I had to get out the fly rod. I landed 8 trout and hooked a couple others in 1/2 hour. It was hot for me, but many people didn't land a fish. While I was there I caught three fish in three consecutive casts using a tiny midge. Time was limited and my uncle and cousins wanted to fish with hardware so we went to the Deschutes near Lapine where I hooked three fish and got a couple rises out of some in the middle of the day. I was able to fish the Fall River a couple other times during the trip, but I was never able to match the action of the first day. I guess according to the local fly shops I was lucky just to catch fish. Later on in the trip we headed up to East Lake. The wind was blowing, the clouds were on us, and it was raining. We all froze. I was amazed to see fish rising in such horrible weather. I was able to hook about 20 fish in one hour of fishing. I caught and kept one huge Kokanee that took my calli nymph. On one of the last days we went up to the Deschutes between Little Lava and Crane Prairie where I landed >50 brook and rainbow trout in a couple hours fishing all on dries. They were all real small with no fish over 10 inches, but I was able to get my 9 yo cousin into his first fish of the trip and his first fish on a fly rod. Amazingly, my fly rod was the only rod to actually catch a fish on the trip. My uncle and cousins tried everything in there arsenal but were unable to catch a fish w/ hardware. It just made me feel that much better to be a fly fisher.
