Default Any backpackers out there?

Has anyone done Pamelia lake or Hunt's cove in the Jefferson wilderness? If weather holds up I am going to hit that area. I did Pamelia lake a few years ago and a buddy and and his kid and I made a raft and sent the kid on his way for the catching on the raft. He the brookies in there. It was a fun trip.

I'm sure you'll have fun but remember that Hunts Cove is one of the most used/overused locales.

Also sometimes early season, just depending on the snow melt, the mosquitos can be ferocious. I remember one time running, with pack, the whole distance from Waldo Lake to Jack Lake trailhead 'cause they were so incredibly bad.

The east side trailheads get a fraction of the use as the westside ones.

Thanks Guys. This is kind of a warm up and gear testing out for me too. I hope to be crossing the Inyo-Sierra national forests.Start on the east side and end up on the West side. That too is about a 50 mile hike I plan to do as long as the snow melts... They had 200% more than average snow fall this season so hoping it melts enough to get over the 12,500 elevation passes. Part of that is on the John Muir/Pacific Crest Trail. Rest is cross country.

I am aware that it is going to be crowded but that is why they have gone to the permit thing. Hopefully it restrcits enough people for all to have a good time and find a place to bunker down for the night.

I seem to recall talking to the forest ranger office a couple of years ago and finding that Pamelia was also very over used. You would probably be best served by calling the ranger office wherever you choose to go and telling them specifically what you're looking for. They were very helpful when I called and directed me to a quiet area off of a short hike that was just the ticket!

Hey Andy a hike into the bull of the woods wilderness might be a little less crowded. rp

Andy I have done the Pamelia lake trip a few times, I believe to spend the night in there you have to make reservations with the Ranger, as I think they only allow so many people in there a day due to over crowding.

Mostly dumbells in there anyway due to, to many fish and not enough feed (large heads small body)
