Default Looking for a good Land map

Where can I find a good map that I can place on my wall and spot out where I plan to hunt ? Almost like a map that shows you who owns what ? Forestry dept. or private land. Would that be a BLM or ODF that I would contact ? I'm not looking for a printable version off the internet. I just recently moved to Scappoose and am looking to begin scouting for next year.

Panfry -

Start with ODF - I think there is an office in StHelens or Columbia City. Their maps show state & federal lands by colorcoding.

Try the BLM....to my knowledge they've got the most comprehensive land-ownership maps just short of "Plat" books, and I haven't seen those for years [and that was back east].

The department of Forestry is in Columbia City. I got a Columbia County map from them a long time ago. I don't remember if mine showed private/public lands in color or what, but they probably know now.

ODF maps on my walls, they update them every 5 years. They do show land ownership, but that changes fairly often in land swap deals, especially between BLM and ODF.

I always use 2 or more maps on my review of an area. I really like a basic flat map, but I must have at least one topo. Different maps show different roads, some show older cat roads (generally topos) that are hidden away.

I have to agree with Gus and GSA. The Oregon Department of Forestry map are the most accurate for North West Oregon. Metzger maps are pretty outdated but do show ownership, albiet some of it is out dated by 40 years. And the Metzger map roads are suspect.

Gus's suggestion of using at least two different maps is exellent. You can never have to much info.

USGS quad maps are available that show topographic features but again the roads are outdated.

BLM has a map of Oregon that is like 3'x5' or there abouts. Shows all of the land ownership by color. Also they have smaller quad area maps that are in color also.
