Default Cow/calf calls?????

I have a sceery call that I like but I have a problem with it freezing up on me. I tryed the mouth reed calls but I cant get used to that. My question is, Have any of you ever used any of the squeeze calls on the market? You know the ones that you just have to push or squeeze with your hand. I have been looking at a couple but havent tryed any yet. Any suggestions or recomendations?

Thanx for your help

Jon

my experience with squeeze calls have been good and bad. And of course we NEVER want bad. The problem with the squeeze call is its extra hand movement, when your hand should be on your weapon or somthing else. Force yourself to learn the reeds....you'll be glad later

Thanx for the advice. Ive tryed the mouth reeds over and over again and I just cant get them to work right consistantly for me. Pretty much the only time I use a call is when an animal is spooked or moving away and I want them to stop. So movment isnt usually going to hurt me. Its quite a shock when a herd is running away and one blow on the call stops them in their tracks and they just turn and look at you.

Im mostly just looking for something easy to use that wont freeze and I dont have to walk around with it in my mouth.

What type of squeese call have you used? Did you like the sound?

I would suggest the Abe and Sons cow/calf call. It uses a latex call similar to the mouth reed only the reed is attached to the call. Comes with a cap that is attached so the reed is protected. This cow call has all the variety of sounds of the reed calls..........much more varied than the Sceery. Very easy to learn.

Suggest you wear it around your neck and under your first layer when freezing conditions dictate.

Also, try calling as you move through the woods. Many times I have walked into elk this way or have gotten a response when I did not know I was about to encounter a herd. Cow calls will also calm the one old girl who has spotted something but has not given the alarm bark yet.

I have 2 squeeze calls, a Carlton ( I think) and the newer Primos "Hootchie Mama". I 've had the Carlton for a couple of seasons and really like it, the other one takes just a little more practice and I'm not as comfortable with it. Both sound great! Go to any archery store and ask 'em to demo them.
I have on occasion bumped or leaned on the bulb and sent out some unwanted noises on occasion, but not a real problem.

Thanx for all the advise!

I think Im going to go with the Primos call. Its the one I have heard the most good things about but like any call it just takes a little time to learn how to use it right.

I had trouble with my Sceery in the wind, If it wasnt tucked in my jacket or shirt the wind would get in it and make the reed go nuts.

Thanx again

I know you have made your mind up but I suggest what others already have. Take the time to get used to the diaphram calls. There are times you need to keep still and/or stop an animal between trees and you gotta have your hands free.
