Re: Weather person-Dead wrong
Weather is pretty hard to forecast. You have pressure areas always moving, you have the jetstream that comes pretty much just to Oregon. Oregon is one of the hardest places to forecast weather due to all the variables that change so fast. One minute you have warm air coming up from the south and the next minute the jetstream is doing a U turn in Alaska and bringing a cold front. Even with the best computer weather programs it's still very hard to forecast weather here.

Yep, it started raining Wednesday and didn't let up all weekend, just like the weather forecasters said. I'll bet the ocean swells didn't hit 10 feet, either. I'd sure appreciate it if they'd just say "I don't have a clue."

Re: Weather person-Dead wrong
I forget the reasoning, but I've heard that the Pac Northwest is amongst the most difficult to forecast.
From my observations, I can believe this must be true.

Re: Weather person-Dead wrong
I know what you mean. I sat out on the river at St. Helens yesterday in those "thunderstorms" and got sunburned on the back of my neck and shoulders Now I look like this guy
I figure if I was a weatherman in the PNW...all my forecasts would be seomthing like:
"Well, there's a 50/50 chance it's gonna rain today" and that would pretty much have it covered

It's because of the Coast range primarily.
The are 100 % Correct in Omaha Nebraska.
where the weather is the same every day.
The best thing to do in Oregon is to be prepared for rain all the time. Personally I like a little mystery.
That storm was gorgous.

Re: Weather person-Dead wrong
I have lived many places and have never seen a place where the weather prediction is off so often. I bought a book from Amato Press called Pacific Northwest Weather. A pretty good read, written by a former Portland area weatherman it explains all of the variables in making up our weather. He also explains some regional anomalies such as the Bandon Effect, and how the Columbus Day storm occur. Having read the book I must say the weather is still weird.

I have actually seen a weatherman say that in Alaska. A station out of Anchorage used to have a guy by the name of Carey ? something. He actually said I havent got a clue what tomorrow will be like. So he suggested keeping your eyes to the shy, what you see is the weather for the moment. You have to love the honesty in someone like that. I wonder if he still has a job?

Re: Weather person-Dead wrong
It's difficult to forecast due to the coast range, cascade range, and the columbia gorge from what I understand.
