Default So, what do you think "they\'re" really saying?

You put in for a point saver and the result says UNSUCCESSFUL . . . . .

That's a good one!

I think you'd better start rubbing shoulders with Bendman and Chosenboy!

I think that is the standard reply for a point saver. Kinda odd though, you would think, successful for point saver would be more understandable.

Don't want to hijack this post, but I've wondered - does a point saver give you another point for that year, or just keep you from losing what you've already got?

By applying for the point savers you are purchasing a pref. pt.

Yes. 'Seems to say "sorry, you spent your $ and didn't get the point saver." Oh well, 'guess it's "their way" of doing it . . . .

Well, to gain a point you need to be "unsuccessful" in drawing a permit. So in a way it does make sense. This is one time where being unsuccessful is a good thing!

Washington Hunter, please understand, I'm only doing this thread for the fun of it. In a general sense, your point (no pun intended) is well taken. What you might not be aware of is: in Oregon, we can purchase a "point saver" . . . so, we don't actually apply for a tag and fail to draw it. It's another way to obtain a point for a future years drawing if you know you are not going to hunt a specific species that year or want to save-up for a hunt you really want, etc. So, I was SUCCESSFUL in purchasing a point saver for pronghorn. Don

Don, actually I know how the Oregon drawing works, and I am aware of what is meant by "point saver." I also know what you meant by your original post, as I have been applying for deer, elk, and antelope in Oregon since 1999. This year I applied for a point saver in the buck deer series, and I also thought it funny that the notification says "unsuccessful" when I got exactly what I was applying for! I guess my first post just wasn't written in a way that made sense.

Oh, not at all . . . I just didn't realize you were so familiar with our hunts. It does hit you as a little "corney" the way they do that, though. Don

Yep, I've been faithfully donating the cost of a hunting license and 3 applications to the ODFW for 7 years now.

(I've only hunted there once, and that was for mule deer.)

I'm sure they love us non-residents...they collect money from us every year and we get nothing in return!

I know why they do it that way! If it said successful for Point Saver, some knuckle head would be down at the *** trying to pick up a tag for Point Saver unit!!!

Without a doubt! And, sometimes it really doesn't "take all kinds" . . . . Don
