Doe hunting and the cowboy dinner tree
Yes, my best friends and I are headed over to Fort Rock for a doe hunt. We both had to have 6 points to draw but weel worth the wait
We get to see Alot of HUGE bucks and eat at the cowboy dinner tree We will be using pistols for are weapon of choice 44 and 41 mag, don't worry we won't be shooting any futher then 50 yards as we have been to the range to see what are limits really are.
We will report back next week. Nothing like great fellowship a great hunt and the cowboy dinner tree

Re: Doe hunting and the cowboy dinner tree
Did the Silver Lake Unit doe hunt a few years ago for my wife's first big game hunt. We had a gas, sure you will too. A meal at the Dinner tree.....should keep you fed for two days. Amazing the bucks you see in late Nov.
Good luck and have a great hunt.

Re: Doe hunting and the cowboy dinner tree
Good luck on the hunt.
The Dinner Tree is an incredible meal. I've always wanted to go in the winter time with the woodstove crackling. I'm drooling on my keyboard.

Re: Doe hunting and the cowboy dinner tree
Its in northern Lake County in the sagebrush a couple miles south of the town of Silver Lake, pretty much out in the middle of nowhere - right at the edge of the Fremont NF and in a prime deer winter range area.

Re: Doe hunting and the cowboy dinner tree
What's the latest news with those hunts?? I went to the silver lake unit when they were giving away 500 tags and almost got shot while I was there by a stray bullet, but since then numbers were dropped way down, then up again, and I've quit paying attention to it. Just curious what kind of numbers they're allowing and points needed. Obviously it's still a lot if it took 6.

Please save me your deer hooves. I am making a gift for my nephew who just became an Eagle Scout.

Re: Doe hunting and the cowboy dinner tree
I'm looking forward to the meal at the Cowboy Dinner Tree with both Billy and Rod. I won't be packing a gun, I'm just going for the fellowship.
It will be great to spend some time with these two great guys. We will be telling stories about all the "ifish guys".....especially "Beeeton Bernie

Re: Doe hunting and the cowboy dinner tree
The first time my wife I went to the Cowboy Dinner Tree, they were serving top sirloin steak.
When they brought out my plate, I thought somebody made a mistake and put an entire rump roast on my plate. I took what I could not eat back to deer camp, the next day my wife cubed up the left over and made a stew that feed the entire hunting camp that evening.

Re: Doe hunting and the cowboy dinner tree
We are back home had a great hunt 2 doe's not as many big bucks as there were 6 years ago, not as many deer as there had been six years ago. Saw about 20 bucks 1 really big one a couple 4 pointers and the rest forks and three points.
Dinner was as great as it always is, Terry aka fishrite first time he has ever been there" I never seen a cut of meat that big"
Billy, Texas Rig was in charge of the hunt dates we went over Friday morning to scout found out friday night that season opened Wedesday the 20th oops seee.
Had a great time with both guys, I guess it's time to oil up the guns and wait til next hunting season :depressed:

Re: Doe hunting and the cowboy dinner tree
Yeap, meat in the cooler! Rod and Billy both got their deer. I learned how to dress a deer "Texas style".....hang 'em by the neck and rip 'em from the neck down. They come out clean as a whistle  The CDT was all that Rod and Billy said it was. Grrrrrrrreat !!!! Hunting with Rod and Billy was a real "gas" Terry
P.S. It really was great to be with two good friends in such a beautiful place!
