Open Seat for duck hunt
Looking for someone that wants to hunt this Thursday. Don't really need to bring anything other than your ammo I even have a second shotgun you can borrow if you want to. All I ask is for a good conversationist, Safe and ethical hunter. I also usually only want my own dog on hand not because they are the best but I just have so many to train. Also must have good ethics when it comes to keeping certain spots to yourself. Send me an E:mail at spiritlabs@aol.com or call me at 503-366-9645

Re: Open Seat for duck hunt
The Captain speaks!
Where you been hidding man?
Do you still have a loose set of keys rattling around in your truck? I probably need to pick those up sometime, just haven't had to much time lately. Been here since 6:30 Monday morning. Business is taking off pretty good, which means I won't be taking off any time soon. I'd love to go Thursday, but I need to wrap things up here so that come Saturday morning I can be in Beaver Nation to watch the whoop'n. Keep me in mind though, most weeks I could probably squeeze a morning hunt in if your having trouble finding someone to go. I even got the old duck boat fired up last weekend. Put a little chinook blood on it!

Re: Open Seat for duck hunt
Hey man long time no see. Yea I've been using
the cabin every weekend for the last few months. (JK) Send me your address in a fprivate mail and I will send them to you. I have been keeping them with my car keys afraid that I will loose them. It was really great staying in that cabin. My buddy has a 22' cruiser and I should have mine finished by this year so lets plan on getting together for some serious Hali hurt this year also. In Closing please send me your address and I will mail the keys to you the cabin was great.

Re: Open Seat for duck hunt
Hey Dan!
How you been? I would be on this offer in a second if I didn't have obligations this week. Maybe some other time we can pop a few quackers.
You're not going to be sturgeon fishin in the next few months, are you?
Take care.

Re: Open Seat for duck hunt
Dan,
I could go on Friday, but I have to work most Thursdays. Good luck out there, and give us a report if you get a chance.

Re: Open Seat for duck hunt
L & C Skunk, Well went out on Wednesday and hunted the tide. My honey whole was fairly dry I guess all the feed is gone. Time to go dump some more food in there I guess
Hopefully we will get some weather that will push some more birds in here.

Re: Open Seat for duck hunt
Question on L & C, I have a layout and a small jon boat and a bigger boat. Do I need to take the smaller boat for the shallows/shore or is the bigger boat enough. I've never hunted there before.

Re: Open Seat for duck hunt
Hunted L&C on Saturday 11/24/02 with the fog all day till about 2pm and an incoming tide, 12 birds for two.
Kaus; I hunted in a 21’ open sled all camo'd that day and normally hunt in a 19’ no problem at all. If you want, only Mallards and high tide than use your layout boat.

Re: Open Seat for duck hunt
Kaus, I would leave that Jon at home or it may end up at the bottom of the river. I did that once and will never do it again thus the brown pants. My dog even gave me the look after we got to shore that he was looking for new partners with a bigger boat. That was a 14' Jon with 14" sides. The best thing to do is to take the big boat in and park it at the beginning of a slough and then paddle in the marsh rat or layout boat back into them. If you get it with the tide going in just let the tide take you in and keep your shotgun handy. Trust me you will need it and only shoot when it is a sure thing once you do that slough is done for a while until you start decoying them in. I usually just motor in and set up and don't worry about spooking them but I have jumped flocks of over a hundred mallards out of some of those holes back in there at close to high tide.
What was your bag limit on Saturday?

Re: Open Seat for duck hunt
Kaus and big fish, Have either one of you guys been to the refuge site. We are getting a gang hunt together for L & C on December 14 and 15. Check the site out and go to the Oregon site on that site and join in the festivities. It promises to be a hoot.

Dan
What is the refuge site, never heard of it. I'm usually there at L&C most Saturdays during duck season anyways.
