2 elk with one shot!!!!!
I just received these pics from a person in Nevada....
Quote:
This is a photo of an elk shot by bowhunter, Ed Schaffer, last week. The two elk were locked horns, one was dead already. Probably asphixiated or died of a broken neck. Ed harvested the live one with his bow and arrow. They are both his animals to keep because the other died of natural causes. He plans to have them mounted as they are. Is this incredible or what? Probably not something you will ever see more than once
in a lifetime.

Re: 2 elk with one shot!!!!!
Not sure where he got these but I know it happened in Montana this year also. My buddy that lives up there sent me the article. It was also shot by a bowhunter. Pretty cool.

Re: 2 elk with one shot!!!!!
Nice!!!!! That would make for an interesting conversation piece. Can you imagine what this hunter must have been thinking when he saw this??? What do I do? Oh ya, shoot...

Re: 2 elk with one shot!!!!!
That's something you don't see everyday. I wonder how long that other bull was dead for?
I remember reading about a man who shot a buck that had another buck that had been locked together. The other deer had been dead for a long time cause all that was left was the antlers and the skull.

Re: 2 elk with one shot!!!!!
once its mounted, where do you hang it? From the ceiling? If the room was narrow you could mount one on each wall, like in the bathroom  My wife would flip out if she had to duck under it to get into the bathroom. Pretty cool though.

Re: 2 elk with one shot!!!!!
That is very unusual! How many points do you count on that one?
I used to work for the 6666's ranch and they had two whitetail deer that were locked up by the antlers, they had mounted them in the corner of the dining hall. The taxidermist tried to seperate them, but couldn't without breaking an antler.

Re: 2 elk with one shot!!!!!
Hate to pour cold water on this but I find it tragic. Yes, it natures way. But get your flame guns out and burn me for what I'm about to say. The live bull would have died........maybe!
What I feel bad about is how the live one was taken. Kind of like snagging fish. There sure as hell wasn't any fair-chase involved here. How about just shooting one tied to a tree or in a pen? I will give the hunter credit however, he probably did the right thing. I just hurt a little on the inside when I look at the picture. I hope he felt bad too and did what he felt he must.

Re: 2 elk with one shot!!!!!
No flames here Bigshark.....just don't agree with ya!!
He did do the live bull a favor, though, as it's pretty unlikely he would've survived hooked to the dead one for long!!

Re: 2 elk with one shot!!!!!
Bigshark
I can not believe how there is always someone on this board to knock what some-one else does. He was hunting and that is fair chase. If you are sitting in a tree stand and a nice bull walks under the tree and you shoot it is that fair chase ??? Yes it is. You worked to find an area that had elk and used good judgement in where to set your stand yet you did not need to stalk it and it may have been a give me shot. I think that this is the same. He hunted an area that had elk and he did his work. So he may have got an easy shot but had twice the work when he was done.
Congrats on a good hunt. This will be a great mount.

Re: 2 elk with one shot!!!!!
I would say both those bulls were headed for lunch with the coyote's. I see nothing wrong in taking them. Way cool, but I'll bet that meats a bit gamey. I would have taken that shot in a heartbeat.
