Default Lake Billy Chinook/ Cove Palisades fishing ???

I am heading over there in a couple days. Usually there is good weather so we wakeboard, ski biscuit, etc. and just hang out. With bad weather in the forecast watersports don't sound so inviting. We have never fished for kokanee or anything like that over there but have caught bass. The bass thing is fun but it gets old fast. I am not into catching little fish enough to get into the other fish before now.

How is the fishing there for other types of fish besides the bass? How big do they get? Can you catch more than a few on a good day?

What do you guys use? I see most people trolling. Do you use something like a ford fender? I guess I will start with a trolling rudder with lead on it...Then what?
PM me if you want.

Thanks for your help.

Jesse

I am headed over this weekend as well. We use wedding rings and a little corn. The fish are usually real deep. Oh ya, a snubber helps as well due to their soft mouths. We have had real succesful days there, and some not so. I have taken my smoker with before and smoked 'em up right in camp. Very tasty. Good luck.

if you go up the metolius arm early in the morning, about sunrise. get to the slackwater where the river meets the lake just below the cable bridge. Jig with a deep red or red and white jig about a size 10 trebble hook. the kokanee may not be thick yet but they will be there.

PM sent

for bull trout, troll herring with a slight bend behind a small wobbler or similar sized kwikfish down near 30-40'.

up deschutes arm from the lake entry to the 3rd landing or up the metolius arm from lake entry to 1/2 mile below island and also from 1/2 mile above island to the shallows near camp monty.

also trolling larger blue/white jointed rapala has produced for me closer to the shore in shallower water.

fyi, if you plan on fishing metolius arm you'll need a tribal permit and once you have your bull in the boat you aren't supposed to be fishing anymore

last one i caught in link below, not sure how to post pic so you can click link

You have a lot of good info here. I would add that if you can find a school of Kokes then try gibbs minnos in 2 1/2 inch w/ some white corn on the hook. Don't be bashful w/ the corn. I have better luck jigging than trolling for kokes! Color is pink and white gibbs. If they aren't schooled yet then troll to cover more water. Look for warmer water pockets...RIP

OH Yeah! Plug cut herring in Met Arm for bulls!
