Rifle brass

One of my mechanics found a rifle brass and we don't know what it is, it has stamped in the bottom t&c 1947 f.s. 7.9 Any ideas what it is

I would guess a 8X57 Mauser.

Could be what you guys say...... but the 1947 could be a year. The 7.9 could be the exact bore diameter but I wonder why they would round-up. I have been under the assumption that this was a habit we yanks had an exclusive on. Would be worth taking to a gun shop and having it measured. If you find out for sure what it is, how about posting it.
Oops.....what if it is an 8 and made in U.S., you guys may have it pegged.

The Germans called it a 7.9X57sS 198 gr bullet going 2476fps. 1947 is the year of manufacture and I would say either German or Yugoslavian.
