slow to spotty everywhere around there, there were spots of action, very early though and then nothing the rest of the day, crabs were a pain stealing bait with in seconds. both seemed to have some action though.

Re: weekend astoria area sturgeon report(6/11-6/12)?
Fished off of T.P. on Saturday. Was hopeful the wind was going to cooperate and it did not. Couldn't manage to get outside of the point after about 1000am when the ebb and the wind were going at it. We did not see a keeper landed all day. Saw a few boats that had fish hanging, one had three.
We managed 3 shakers (~35, 38 and 43") all on anchovies. They wouldn't touch a smelt and I didn't both to try sand shrimp. Yes, the trash fish (sculpins, crabs, etc) were awful.
The good news was that when you did manage to find a fish (and still had bait on), they hit the anchovie with reckless abandon. Going to give it another try in a couple weeks as I don't think it will close early.
Good luck!

Re: weekend astoria area sturgeon report(6/11-6/12)?
The bite was pretty good yesterday in spots. Our bait was taken very often by other species other than gators but if you wrap the anchovies or shrimp it seemed to help us. The fish seemed to be in deeper water yesterday.

Ended up picking up 3 keepers late on Saturday. Just below Tongue Point, ~200 yards below the green can in 55 ft. Very, very ROUGH conditions, very slooow....
Anchovy / sand shrimp cocktail worked the best.

Re: weekend astoria area sturgeon report(6/11-6/12)?
When I was down there on Thursday the fish were holding in 25'+ deep water on the outgoing along the green can line on the OR side of the river. There were no boats fishing the WA sands... all the charters on the WA side were above the bridge fishing the deep stuff. The trash fish and crabs were real bad once the tide slowed. We saw absolutely no action on the incoming.
Over all with my three trips down there this year I would say it was very slow for this time of year.

Fished sunday, used anchovies, herring and sand shrimp. We caught 2 under 40". Saw fish caught in the morning in the chanel at Cathlamet bay up river from Toung Point. Did not see a keeper caught after 3:00 pm. Too much wind I guess. Sure was a beatiful morning on the water.

i would have to agree with shane on this one , whats going on this year down there , it seems to be screwed up like the salmon runs this year. The best action if any was on the outgoing though and the crabs and trash fish were a pain. Good luck up there

think it has something to do with the lack of smelt ?

Re: weekend astoria area sturgeon report(6/11-6/12)?
who knows what the deal is , it seems like even back during the winter months there wasnt much going on, I think its just the lack of fish in the system for one reason or another , the smelt thing could have somethin to do with it

Re: weekend astoria area sturgeon report(6/11-6/12
Fished both days and saw very little action. Lots of bait robbers...wrapping helped a bit...but didnt make much difference in the long run...Charters were having a tough time finding fish. We fished all depths...kept moving hoping to find something..we were using anchovie..herring..shrimp..squid..smelt....big fat zero. Fish checkers werent seeing very many fish at the dock. Swung by Sturgeon Pete's on the way out of town...nothing on the floor and nothing on the tables. I'm gonna wait a couple of weeks before heading down there again.

Re: weekend astoria area sturgeon report(6/11-6/12)?
They had a big anchovie die off not to long ago. That will slow things down to a crawl. Too much bait on the estuary floor and the fish are full. Give it a couple of weeks..

Re: weekend astoria area sturgeon report(6/11-6/12)?
Saturday 6/11: Picked up a 49" & 46" where Shane was fishing, only keepers of the day, 25' of water.
Monday 6/13: Picked up a 50" & 47" on the Sands below the Bridge, 9' of water. Nothing where we picked up the other 2 on Sat.

WOW! After reading this thread I don't feel so bad about my boat's showing on Sunday on the WA side.
One question, though? How is it Clancey always finds the fish?

Re: weekend astoria area sturgeon report(6/11-6/12
Fished Saturday with a buddy...... you are all going to hate me but, we were in the water by at least 5:30 from JohnDay launch. We limited by 7:20 exactly!!!!!! So....we kept fishing for a few more hours catch and release. We ended up catching about twenty gators all over 40 inches and at least 6-10 were around 50 inches. We were coming back in and seen the hored of boats gathered just around tongue point just out of the wind and waves. The cool thing was is that while most people got wet, we got sunburned/windburned. We watched as the showers rained down on both sides of us. Gotta say the Water and weather was pretty rough. I cant tell you where we were fishing because I swore to secrecy so dont ask. But, I had an awesome day.....we finished up catching kokanee on Merwin lake and I still had time for yard work at the end of the day.
