Default Saddle Mt. results

My son and I both hunted first season Saddle Mt. up the Clear Creek drainage, Spent every day in the woods and drove less than 20 miles total. First day was quiet, didn't see or hear of any shot. Day two elk were shot all around us it seemed. And several of the elk shot were in an area we had been in day one, and there were elk tracks on top of our boot tracks! At least 6 bulls were taken that day near us and we saw 3 more in pickups. Day 3 and 4 were both quiet, we heard an elk herd travelling down a timbered canyon but couldn't get near to them on day 3. Day 4 we went for it and I walked better than 20 miles while my son covered the area on his mountain bike (I'm gonna get one for next year!). We spent some time in one spot I know of and the elk were close, warm, slimy droppings and the reek of wet animals but we didn't find them. My son did find his first elk shed, a real nice older 5-pt with large up-turned eye gaurds and brow tines. So we didn't put any meat in the freezer but I spent Quality time with my son and he thanked me more than once for the good time we had together. Thats what counts! Also this is a long shot but...Jason dropped his radio, It is a small blue/green Vtech , V-talk if you find it,give me a holler. Thanx

Bob

Hey fishuntr2 thats what it's all about, spending times like that with family or friends. There's nothing better. An elk would have been a bonus...

do you know the general location he dropped it, because I may be hunting there 2nd season, and I'll keep my eyes open.

Same thing happened to me once. I did the hike again with my brother calling my radio until we found it in some ferns.

This weekend my son and a couple of friends are gonna hike back into the area where he dropped the radio and found that elk shed. I plan on dropping them off on a road/trail that is near that spot then they can hike back to the house (about 10 miles). How much you wanna bet they not only see elk but see bulls! This will be after the second saddle Mt. season is over. There's always next year!!
MY neighbor is a log-truck driver and he said 17 branched bulls were harvested in the first 2 days of the first season hunt from the area he's been working in. The spawners are still coming up-river past my place, bright red and hook-jawed!
