Jo Jo,
The woods were pretty dry and noisy here until last weekend when it started raining. I went out last Saturday, but the only buck that I saw was a little forked horn. It is supposed to rain most of this week, so by Thanksgiving you should be able to move around without waking up the whole countryside
Which way are you going to hunt from Spokane, north or south? North is mountains and trees, and south is wheat country and rock.
Good-luck.

I have hunted the Newport , Usk area for years with great success. My largest buck gross scored 174 was taken in the Tacoma Creek drainage in 1987. It is a few miles north of Usk and after turning off the highway it is not very far to the national forest boundary. There is a military training area on the east side of the Tacoma Creek Road that is off limits. You will not see many deer out in the open and the brush is thick. The rut should be on the downswing but the bucks should still be moving.I usually hunt from treestands and let the deer come to me. I must add that the last few years the deer seem to be in lower lying areas moreso than higher in the mountains. Another option is to look on a map that shows public lands and find sections that are surrounded by private land. Are you muzzleloading ? The rifle season closes Nov.19
