Re: Chesapeake retriever
Has it had any training, house broke, will it obey a stay and sit command. Sometimes it is hard to overcome 1 1/2 years of just playing around. I need to know a little bit more about the dog.
I am interested but now live in a neiborhood of little kids, just wanting to make sure I won't have a bunch of problems.

Re: Chesapeake retriever
Hey Bill - If you want a reference for your puppies new home I can give you one for 1eyed.  He's a little strange, but the dogs seem to like him (could be the smell). I don't think he'll steal any bones from the dog and I'm darn sure he'll get plenty of fishing and hunting excercise (the dog that is). I'm not sure if he's house broke though, have to check, might need a few wacks with a newspaper or a nose rub till he gets the hang of it! Oh - and I'm darned sure that 1eyed does NOT sit and stay on command.

Re: Chesapeake retriever
Oh Mel,
Many thanks for all your help  . You just had to say that I might eat more than the dog. I promise that I would save him the bones.
And no I do not obey the sit and stay command

Re: Chesapeake retriever
1eyed - You didn't deny needing some training in the housebroke dept!  Serious though, I hope this works for both of you. I'm sure it's a fine dog and you'll give him a fine home.

Chesapeake retriever
Anyone interested in a chesapeake retriever? My daughter wants him to go to a good home. He's just too much for her and the little ones. Name is Kodiak. He'd be a good hunting dog and probably will calm down considerably with a little attention...free to good home, but he won't go in the paper like that, just here...let me know by email and I'll give you her number. We're in Oregon City.

Re: Chesapeake retriever
If she can't find a good home, email me.. I have a 2 yr old male chessie and am looking for another companion for him.
Even at 1.5 years they are still trainable, you'll just need a little more paitience than with a pup.
Also from my expirience they are great with kids, Mine is the neighborhood favorite with all of the kids. He'll let them into the yard to play, no problem.. But they have to leave on there own because he won't let their parents in.

Re: Chesapeake retriever
I am so very happy   that my wife and I have decided to take the dog. I would like to thank Bill and his daughter for giving me the chance to have such a wonderful dog. We have wanted a new dog for years and now we have one.
I can't wait to meet the dog, going to stop by this weekend and see the pup (all 90 lbs of pup).
I have a lot of work to do next week, have to buy materials for a fence, have to build a fence and a kennel.
If anyone knows someone with a spare dog house and a travel carrier that I could buy for a large dog, that would help. I need all new stuff, I have nothing left from our previous dogs.
Man, this is going to fun   , I can't wait.

Re: Chesapeake retriever
1eyed, I have an old dog house that you could probably talk me out of....It's a little older, but not too bad. I used it for my Viszla until he fought a car and the car won. If you're interested, send me an e-mail.
