Default Electrical Problem....need help!! Please

Anyone who could help me I would appreciate it. I have a Trophy 2052.....dead at sea, got towed in. Wont turn over. No audible alarm going off. Power everywhere else on the boat.

Got home and checked voltage at the switch....good there. Pulled the switch out...continuaty across the starter and the ignition poles of the ignition switch.

It has a neutral safety switch and an emergency stop switch....I dont know if they are bad or how to test them.

The audible alarm is supposed to sound when you turn the key on but doesnt. It alarms on low oil pressure, over temp, or low drive oil. Drive oil is ok, engine is cool but the engine is off so it should alrm for low oil pressure.

Any ideas?.......

Thanks in advance...........Rick

It sounds like you need a experienced boat electrician to look at your boat. The problem is probably in the circuits that you have indicated. Boat wiring is still in the dark ages. They still use individual runs of wire instead of pre-manufactured loams of related circuits like cars.

One thing to check is to see if they used UL 1426 approved wire. That is the better wire that is tin coated instead of automotive wire. Often a small nick in the insulation can result in the wire not being able to carry enough current to run a circuit but will often show voltage when tested. If you have to replace any wire make sure that it is tin coated.

Locate the switches and put a jumper across them one at a time
If ether results in engine turing over you have found the problem. Also look for something as simple as a wire comeing loose at the switch.
I guess I should back up here, no alarm would suggest no power to the ignition switch. Check that first. HTH

I checked all the wires....all tight and no corrosion. Then had 12.6 Volts at the switch.....

Maybe the jumper is a good check if I can get to the neutral switch and safety switch.

Thanks,........Rick

Need to know a little more! Was the motor running and just die? Or was the big engine shut down and refused to crank? It kinda sounds like a starter relay has gone south. I had a wire pop off the starter relay and acted very similar. You might want to start isolating starter wires and relays to narrow it down.
