Default Guide Questions

Anyone know what the legal requirements are to become a licensed fishing guide? Thanks.Lance

Also, any guides out there want an apprentice during the summer or on weekends?

It's a piece of cake until you put a motor on your boat. Do a search, there used to be several threads on this...

I think the State Marine Board can help you with an application packet and list of requirements.

If you are using a "powerboat" you'll also need a license from the United States Coast Guard. You can check in Portland with the USCG's Marine Safety Office on Swan Island for the federal requirements.

Hey there lance,
Call the coast guard in portland, and ask them to send you a licencesing information packet for a new licensee. They will mail it to you. I live in the same area, and am in the same process odf licensing, I have a # of a guy that gets ya ready for the tests, and now is able to give the 4 tests required to accomplish what your looking for. The guy is sharp!!! He will tutor you at your own pace till he thinks your ready, then he will give you the test. You then take your certificate to the coast gaurd where there will issue your licence same day. It is a long process though!!!! PM me if you want any more info!! Todd

I was told Linde had a kid on the boat wrapping and sharpening, as Eric smokes cigars and told stories to his dudes. Could be a growing thing...

A puker( charterboat) would be a fairly easy avenue to get into the fishing biz.

Commercial boats are pretty easy to get a job on.

I doubt you can be on someones boat for free. In most business, you pay or get paid. Liability issues make it so.

No matter where you end up, you will work very hard. If you do not, you will be replaced. Any professional fisherman works their tail off.

Blacktail, which lic are you getting?

Mark and the dog.
