Big D Report: 5/31-6/5 (Long/Pic Heavy)
I hope you all don't mind me sharing. But this is a major trip that my dad and I take every year. It's one week out of the year that just he and I spend time together. My dad doesn't get out to fish much and I make every effort to make this an ejoyable, relaxing trip for him.
We spent last week on the Big D, camped at Trout Creek. We arrived Tuesday and floated Warm Springs to Trout Creek Wed, Thurs, Fri and Sat. We caught a ton of fish of varying sizes and colorings. About half on nymphs and half on salmon flies. It was a great trip. Here are the pics:
PHOTO JOURNAL
On the way in, we were a bit delayed by a construction crew that had to be a little creative getting their equipment through the tunnel.
We finally arrived at our camp site and set up. We didn't even take the time to unhook the trailer. Found a level spot and put the stabilizers in place. Time to fish!
The Crackercraft gets its first taste of Big D water Wed AM.
This site has always amazed me. the story that I've heard is that the natives get inside this tent, build a fire , use it like a sauna, then run and jump into the river. If anyone could verify this or explain the "real" story, please share.
We enjoy not only the fishing, but the other sites we come upon as well....like this young buck in velvet.
Dad lands the first fish of the trip. I had to get the tub in the background as well Some call me shameless, but this is the first year down the Big D in a "real" boat.
And just so you all know, I did manage to catch some fish of my own. Actually, quite a few. Here are just a handful.
All in all, it was an awesome trip. We caught many fish. I saw Twofister and Greenbuttskunk Tuesday as they came in. Met several nice guys on the river. It was very busy with lots of traffic, but we always managed to find spots to squeak out some fish.

Going on strong especially in the afternoon when temps heat up. We caught lots on salmon fly and stonefly patterns.

Trips like that with one's Dad (or son/daughter) are simply... Priceless.
Thanks for sharing the experience!
