Default Bird Hunting

Hello fellow bird slayers,

I live west of Portland (Hillsboro), I’m fairly new to the area, with an Oregon born and raise, 3 year old chocolate lab.

I’m looking for some public land, to do some upland game bird hunting.

I usually go to Yakima and Kittas Valley (in Washington), since I grew up there. However, I would like to stay closer to home.
Can anyone point in the right direction?

Thanks
cstan

Welcome to the ranks. I'm sure others can help ypu more than I can but wanted to say Hi and let you know someone is out there.

My suggestion is to look at the local refuges like those in the central part of the valley. One called Wilson might be a stsrt for you. Check with the ODFW in PDX and the info gal can give you the nuts and bolts. We have a few guys that know a lot and will share but you will have to wait till they get on the board. Good luck to you and enjoy the board as its really a great one.

cstan,

Here's a start to some of the threads that have been on this board this fall. Should give you a pretty good idea of some areas to go and what to look for. I'm more than willing to explain more, just don't have the time right now. Post any questions. Lots of good upland guys on this board.

western grouse

costal grouse

S. Oregon upland report

EE Wilson

upland report

Also, if you are going to be hunting grouse this year, please do take part in ODFW's wing survey. It's easy, free and really provides a lot of useful information. Here's how to do it - oregon grouse hunters

I would like to do some pheasant hunting again in E WA. I don't have a dog, but do have a boat at the coast for salmon fising, etc. Maybe we could help each other.
