Default Umpqua report 6/5

Headed down to the N. Umpqua yesterday morning with a buddy, started fishing aroung 5:00. Fished for about 5 hours but couldn't stick a chinook. Saw lots of fish rolling and moving by, just not biting for us. We only saw 2 jacks caught. So we are getting pretty tired by now when my buddy suggests lets go shad fishing. We had the light rods too so we packed up and headed down. Fished near Elkton for about about 4 hours. All fish were caught on 4# test, and we lost as many as we kept. Pink seemed to be the hot color. This is my buddy back at my place getting ready to package them for crab bait.

Good job! Looks like the river must have cleared up some. Were you bank fishing or did you have a boat? I'm thinking of heading back down tomorrow with the driftboat and trying Sawyer's again.

Skein, we were bank fishing YC. Another buddy did well bank fishing sawyers a couple of days ago. The river had cleared up well, hopefully it doesn't mud up with this rain.
Heres a trick I tried yesterday that seemed to work. I like to fish the slanted head shad darts, but when I put a grub tail on it always slides down. Solution=super glue the grubs onto the head and you spend less time fixing your grub and it fishes better.

Man! I knew I should have tried that. I wound up fishing the willamette through Eugene. Covered a lot of water and only caught a small trout. Maybe I'll try the Umpqua soon. Let me know if you need company OregonOutdoors, I could use a shad mentor. Good Job!

Awesome! Looks like you guys had a good time. Too bad I'm not around to show you how to catch salmon. Maybe I'll make it up there for the fall run to show you how it's done. Oh, and thanks again for returning those waders for me. I got them in the mail late last week! Catch some nookie for me!
