Default Sauvie Island today

I heard on wednesday it was pretty good with a 3 bird average. Went out at o dark thirty to the west side. I drew #91 and sucked. There was an early morning blast and by 8am it got real quite. No wind or chop, just a blue bird type of day. On Wed they had chop on the water. Most people started picking up their decoys around 9am because it was dead. Like the old saying " when you hear about it being good, it's too late"

Mallard-

You're a better man than I am. At least you made an effort to get out there. One look at this weather and I'm thinking about anything other than ducks. It's looking like a real bummer so far.
Where did you hunt on the west side? Mud?

Yes I hunted the new mud #7, the new 8 & nine did most of the shooting. They also picked up around 9am but had birds. My son in law and his buddie went to the East side and had 10 birds before nine. Mud #6 shot twice before shoot time. We all started yelling at them. Must not of had a watch.

I went to the eastside as well, and shot pretty poorly. Set up in a mud puddle, and finished by shooting 1 for 6 by 830.

Its been awhile since I have had to shoot while sitting on my but, coming up from a prone position while laying in the mud.

I couldn't believe how low the water in Sturgeon Lake was. I don't think I have ever seen it that low.
