R 'n L,
Go pick up some Moccasin Joe Blacktail Doe In Heat Estrus Urine scent. Use it on your boots, a drag cloth or around your stand if you still hunt. The deer will come to you. I have used scent to kill many nice bucks. Find yourself an area with some sort of deer activity or sign. The bucks will have the scoots now, so look for loose piles. Any doe is likely to have a buck hot on her now, so if you see one be ready. Serious blacktail hunters' blood starts to boil around the 1st of Nov. If you find an area with good buck activity, it will be very evident. If you find rubs, then keep going back. Big bucks will make small rubs, but only big bucks make huge ones. Look for rubs from knee high to your waist in height and ones that are fairly compact if they are on larger diameter trees. This time of year is your best shot at having a buck slip up. Great areas I like to concentrate on are 15-20 yr old reprod patches or timber next to them. Also ideal are clearcuts with 4-7yrs regrowth. The big old boys will often hang out in the vine maple and salmonberry patches. Keep your scope power turned way down when in the thick stuff. Boyd Iverson says that still hunting is one of the best methods. Get yourself in a good area and be ready! Take those last (3) weekdays off if you can. Often times the best 5 minutes of the season is the last 5 minutes of shooting hours on the final day. Don't give up. Spend your time in the woods and YOU WILL get a chance. Good luck, shoot straight and keep safe.

I think Tuna Master pretty much covered it. Use the wind to your advantage, it makes walking a bit easier because it covers your noise. I have passed Forks the last couple days on the upper clack Drainage. Almost anywhere that you normaly hunt should work right now. I love the last week of season the big boys start to get a little dumb. They are just starting to run the does, I watched two does in a reprod patch today for about an hour hoping that old mister big was lurking close by but no luck. No bucks with those two yet, maybe in a couple of days I will try and find them again. Did have one of the does come within 5 yards of me trying to see what I was. Just kept holding still and waiting. Sure do love Blacktail hunting.

Default What to do????

With less than a week left in the General Deer season, does anyone have any advice on tactics/areas to fill my buck tag? I don't hunt for horns, so any of these forks that people are seeing and passing on would be in the back of my truck in a heartbeat.

Also, does anyone have any suggestions on how to hunt in this wind? Doesn't seem like it is going to ebb much before the end of the season.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks,
Rip'N'Lips
