I think that they should ban all the use of buckshot for deer hunting. I seen to many deer get shot with buck shot and they run off and die. They think that they miss it  but only one or two pellets hit the poor deer.
I seen today someone 50 yards away shoot at a deer with buck shot two times and miss it.

I know of a lot of people that hate the stuff. I would like you hear from you.
I think that buckshot should only be used on birds and night time coyote hunting.

So what do you think??

KF85 - In Oregon, buckshot is illegal for birds. For deer at close range, some people swear by it. I once shot a little buck at about 15 yards with OO buckshot and hit it with 4 pellets. Staggered it but didn't knock it down. It leaned on a small alder until I hit it in the head with another load from 5 yds. I've shot several deer with 1 oz. slugs and they go down fast and stay down. With a rifled slug barrel and iron sights, slugs are deadly up to 75+ yds.

I was up grouse hunting and I was watching this one guy get on a deer. He was about 10 yards from it and hit the thing and it went down. He would not shoot it to put it out so I ran over there and put it out with the 22 cause I could not stand to listen to that deer cry.

Also there was a time that a farmer down the road had a deer that was about ready to die cause it got hit by a car, some people came up and asked if they could hunt his land for does or better, he said the only doe that you are going to shoot is the one out at the end of the field in pain. They went out there and fired off 8 shots wounding the deer even more and then the old man drove out there and put it out with the 06
I also last year came across 3 dead deer that seem to been hit with buck shot and ran off and had a slow death.
The year that they opened my unit to shotgun hunting, I found so many dead deer it made me sick.

Sorry people for this but this is just something that's on my mind.

If buckshot is used right it is deadly. I like it for really thick brush on private property where the animal will be close up. If you even get a shot there is no way to make it with a rifle.

With that said it can be VERY dangerous! If you dont know whats beyond your target DONT USE IT! That should be with any weapon but with buckshot its even more so. 00 buck has 9-13 pellets in it and not all of them fly perfectly straight.

Just my .02

Buckshot is very effective. I have used it from the time I was a 10 and have killed many deer with it over the years. I have had one deer in those years that I did not retrieve and that was because it managed to die on the wrong side on the fence.
