Bonneville Reservoir closes to sturgeon retention June 10
CLACKAMAS - The Columbia River between Bonneville Dam and The Dalles Dam will close to the retention of sturgeon effective 11:59 p.m., Friday, June 10, because the catch guideline will be reached, the states of Oregon and Washington decided today.
Catch and release sturgeon angling may continue in Bonneville Reservoir for the remainder of 2005.
The Columbia River sturgeon harvest is managed using catch guidelines. This area of the river had a 700 sturgeon catch quota. The areas between The Dalles Dam and John Day and John Day Dam and McNary Dam remain open to sturgeon retention until the catch guideline is reached.
The Columbia River from the mouth upstream to the Wauna Powerlines is open to sturgeon retention through July 4. The area between Wauna Powerlines and Beacon Rock is open to sturgeon retention Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays through July 30. Catch and release fishing is allowed four days a week.
