It has been a while since I have bought a new gun. Things have changed. :depressed: I bought my boy his first single shot 22 yesterday. It was a New Englund Arms break action that will shoot equally well left or right handed. Not the perfect gun I set out to find, but options are limited for southpaws and it will do what I want it to do. Evertyhing is a compromise in gun selections.
I get handed a form to fill out once I decided to buy the gun. I had told the guy behind the counter that I was shopping for my sons first gun. I am happily filling out this form when I realize I have to lie on it to get the gun. There is a question that reads something like the following, I dont remember the exact wording but this is close.
"I certify that I am buying this gun for myself and not for somebody else. note: if you are buying this gun for somebody else you will not be allowed to purchase the gun."
I lie on the form, um,.... I mean I guess I really bought the gun for myself, and now I plan on giving it to my son for Christmas
Then I get told I have to pay an additional $9 for the phone call to the state to see if they will allow me to buy the gun. Do all stores charge you for the phone call, I hadnt heard this yet at any stores. I am curious if this is the norm, or if I got stuck for an additional small fee that I shouldnt have?
Did I forget to tell you I got fingerprinted in the process. If felt like a criminal leaving the store before they got done with me. Christmas isnt like it use to be.
