If you want to color it up a bit add some colored beads above the swivel, fish with 3/4oz weight about 2 feet off the bottom

Go to dicknite.com. Size 0 (wee) size but size 1 works a little too, green, silver brass, red or white. My fav are brass brass with red or white with red head or tail. Painted when cloudy dark, metal when sunny. I use other stuff but the wee dick nites are the go tos(IMHO). GI Joes stocks them here (if they don't get sold out) 1.27 on sale, 2.00 reg. Baitboy gave a pretty good run down in related post of jig head with tail (green or white) also very good. Check related posts. They hit itty bitty fluttery stuff best. Have both feet planted because springers will pick this stuff up too.

I like the Chart. / white or Chart/chrome wee Dick nite with the red/white a VERY close second. I fish 'em on a 3 way (slider or spreader) 30" - 40" dropper (sometimes a shorter dropper is needed) and 36 -48", 15# leader line. I uses heavier line than most but I've put 3 springers in the boat on shad lures over the years

I hope this helps.

Just be sure you take a variety of colors and lures. Each of them have their own day. And always have more than one lure with each color......just ask my fishing partner about that one!

All of them will catch fish, having the right color can mean the difference between fifty fish a day or two hundred....just depends on how many you want to catch!

By the way, the hot color for me at the shad rack has been anything pink.
Here is my hottest lure....the pink one worked the best, out fished all other lures 3 to 1

Good luck,
Scott

i got one on petes bead things last monday, but i got the red on SMALL chartruse green jig heads with the body of a small chartruse curly tail jig. i fished from the bank at bonne, just use a 1 ounce weight, cast out and reel in slow, or vary your speed sometimes, i caught them on the fast retreive, on the drop down, slow retreive, no retreive at all, just get your pole in the water and u'll catch fish, i was thinkin about using those chartruse gami hooks plain and see what happens.

I tried the brass swivel and bead combos, and they just werent working for me, not a bump. Switched to red and brass Dick Nites and whammo. Then one day a white with red tipped Dick Nite was the killer. Even had hits on a homemade steely spinner with a #5 blade.

Shad seem to like movement. If plunking, I use a DickNite or Triple Teazer with a light leader on a spinning rod. However, I have done better lately backbouncing Pete's rig on a 12oz leader into their faces, which is easier with a baitcaster with thumb-bar release (a 4601C4 is perfect) on a medium light to medium rod (8-12# or 12-20#).

There's no question, backbouncing makes a huge difference. If you're in the fish, you don't have time to set the rod down anyway!

.... now, I just can't wait to cash-in my shad for some crab!
