Default Juntura Chukars

Just got back from Juntura, hunted Sat and Sun. Started a little late on Sat but got up high about 10 mi east out of Juntura and found a relativley flat table about 3 acre in area with good cover and 4 coveys of birds ! Got some decent shooting before having to start back down.
Sunday I hiked a new location near town and moved on to a different location that afternoon. I only saw a few birds that flushed wild and I could not find any new cover that was as thick as the previouse day. It appeared that the dry summer has put good cover at a premium. That first day the birds seemed reluctant to vacate despite the commotion of pushing cover, flushing and shooting. I finished by hunting close to the river but only flushed quail. Any one else find similar conditions else where ?
