Default Duck calls?

Anybody know where to get Kum-Duks? Maybe I haven't looked hard enough, but they seem to get harder to find every year.

I might make the big switch this year and try another call. Any former Kum-Duk users out there that have switched to a better call?
I've used 'em for a long time but there's one thing I hate: I gotta go through about 6 of them to get one that sounds worth a crap. But once I get it tuned, it lasts forever. Anybody else have this problem?

I got my last one at BiMart - last year. All of mine have sounded pretty good to me, but then I don't know what a duck really sounds like.

Good luck.

Joes almost always has Kum Ducks around someplace. I found a couple of boxes out on the shelves last year. Pick them up and have at it. Take the ones you like and leave the rest.
The new injection mold is making a better fit for the cork and reed. More of the calls sound better out of the box. Don't be afraid to use a little super fine sandpaper if needed. Some of mine are more than 40 years old and everyone has their opnion on what is best for them. For nontimbered areas it is in a class all its own IMHO.

I was a religious Kum-Duck user for many years from back when I went to a calling class taught by Roger Reynolds. Now, for the last 10 years I've used an Iverson and am very pleased with it.

Do you guys really like those kum duck calls??? Maybe its just me but i dont think those things sound good at all. You would be better off investing a few more dollars and getting a decent call. You should look at getting a haydel call. There only a few bucks more and will double your results. Just my 2 cents.

Going through six calls to find one that sounds decent? IMHO, I would save up my pennies and buy a good call. For $70-80 (ten bucks more than your six Kum-Ducks) you could pick up a cocobolo RNT or Echo. Better yet go to the Oregon Waterfowl Festival next June and have one custom tuned for the way you like it.

1pump,

Saw Kum Ducks at Joe's the other night. Never have used one but I think I may have a great alternative to buying several of those before you find a good one. Troy Taylor out of Puyallup WA builds duck calls that are awesome! Has both acrylic and Delrin. I believe they run in the $40 dollar range but are an awesome call! Do a search for Taylor's Talkers and you will find them. Beats going through all that searching. You can get a good one the first time. Hope this helps.

I have used the Kum-Duck for years and was frustrated with the "wet sticking". I went to a Sure-Shot "Yentzen Duck Call 500". It is inexpensive, won't stick and a "getter". It is a little quieter, but that is common with the double reeds.
