Default Gates on the fish ladder?

Saw on the news last night that gates were being installed to deter those 2 or 3 sealions from getting into the fish ladder. Great idea guys, got any plans for keeping them from hanging out in front of the gates?
I know this subject has been beat to death and I do believe that something needs to be done, but this seems like a waste of money to me.
If I have misinterpreted the information in the news article or if more information is available please let me know.
Thanks,
Mike Turley

No brainer. Sounds like an easy fix for an immediate need. Whether to control them in the river and how is a little more complex.

With all those high paid engineers that build those dams, one would think they could come up with a gate that fish could pass through and seas lions could not. I can think of several versions right now.

Hey, Corps of Engineers! Salmon are only about 6 inches wide, Sea Lions are about 20 -24 inches wide or wider. Think outside the box.

I posted this quite some time back when the problem first surfaced and someone commented that it would not work because oversize sturgeon would not be able to negotiate the bars.

I guess it depends on who thinks of it. Reminds me of when I worked for the State. If the brass thought of something it was sent from God. If a field worker thought of soemthing it was useless nonsense. As Larry the Cable guy says "Gitter done"!
