Taken harvested elk at gun point
I was stopped and had my tags inspected by a State Trooper ealier in the morning. As left a section of the Wilson (just off 26) when we saw the State Trooper race out of the area.
Reportedly, a group of armed Asian men were taking harvested elk as the hunters packed them to Wheeler RD between Hwy 26 and the Timber RD.
I wish I could have run into that Trooper (any Trooper) afterwards to see if this was true. Word spread fast through the area. I heard the warning come down the grapevine several times.
Can anyone confirm this?

Re: Taken harvested elk at gun point
I am confused about what you said Kevin. Were these guys stealing elk taken by other people?
This sounds scary and messed up.

Re: Taken harvested elk at gun point
I'm not doubting you heard it, but this sounds a little like post-Sept. 11th paranoia. I can't imagine someone charging around in the woods where they gotta know everyone's armed and risking a gunfight over elk meat. If somebody points a gun at me, they better be ready to use it because I won't hesitate to use mine if I get the chance, and screw the consequences.

Re: Taken harvested elk at gun point
HEY, I live close to this area but haven't heard a word about it. Has it been reported in any newspapers? I ususally see asian mushroomers but this year have been seeing these folks packing hunting rifles. Actually I have never really seen these type of folks hunting in my area, mostly just picking mushrooms but in the last couple of weeks they seem to be deer hunting. Probably all legit but I will not hesitate to protect my kill.

Re: Taken harvested elk at gun point
You get the drop on me and you can have whatever you want; dirty underwear, waterproof matches, my deer/elk, you pick
?! there isn't a dead or a live deer or elk that is worth my life, you can have it.
Will I turn you in, Yes, will I testify, Yes, but you threaten me with a gun, I ain't fighting over a dead animal.

Re: Taken harvested elk at gun point
Gus - you would need to kill something before somebody took it away from you. I doubt anybody has that much patients to wait for the taking.
I have a hard time believing this story. I dont doubt the rumor is being reported as the rumor exist. But for people to be out there taking meat by gun point as it leaves the hill is a hard pill to swallow. If somebody wanted some meat it would be a lot easier to take some meat from a store/meat market, than to try and take it from an armed hunter.
I did hear of a huge 8x7 bull that was outlawed a couple weeks ago in the trask unit. The big bull stood out in a clear cut on a regular basis and several people were keeping an eye on the big bull. While a guy and his wife were watching it, some outlaws drove up, thought they were there all alone and dropped him. They got reported by the husband wife team and were caught was the story I heard.

Re: Taken harvested elk at gun point
done with your milk and cookies?
I haven't gotten anything yet because I am pacing myself. No rush here, should be putting down a monster real soon that will put to shame that yearling with a growth you called a forky ... mmm reminds me haven't seen any photos of that trophy yet.
oh and I won't be shooting a 300 at the little guys, . I will be using something that leaves some meat behind

Re: Taken harvested elk at gun point
Gus-
I didn't mean to sound like right-wing militant  I'm just tired of punks who have seen too many movies and listened to too much gangsta rap, and think that pointing a gun at someone is an acceptable way of getting their point across. A firearm is a lethal weapon, not a fashion accessory. It will not always get you instant respect, and it may get you killed.
OK, I'll give everybody a break and go away now.

Re: Taken harvested elk at gun point
If someone tryed to take anything of mine or anyone close to me at gunpoint they had better use it. If they dont as soon as i get the chance i will use it on them either by beating the snot outta them with it or by pulling my own weapon.
just my .02

Re: Taken harvested elk at gun point
I find this story kinda hard to believe too. If someone tried to take my kill at gun point I would walk away just out of sight then I just might launch a few their way just close enough to make then eat dirt. Then I’d find their rig and make it so they would be around when OSP arrived.
Gus, don’t you know that antler soup is a great low cal meal where size doesn’t matter. Roy how do those antlers smoke up?

Re: Taken harvested elk at gun point
Has anyone heard anymore about this? My son said that the kids at Vernonia High were talking about it so word did get around. But I still haven't seen anything in the papers or on the news. I would like to know if it all really happened.....

Re: Taken harvested elk at gun point
Kids at school probably started the rumor and are laughing their butts off because the parents are starting to ask them about it.
If someone is clever enough to figure out where I'm going to come out of the woods with meat on my back AND can get the drop on me the meat is theirs heck I'll even help them load it up. I won't tell them were the rest of it is though  or maybe I would and just beat them to the spot and be waiting for them.
