Default Sturgeon in the North Albany Area?

I was having dinner last night at a local diner off the beaten road and overheard some gossip in the next booth about a sturgeon hole in North Albany in the willamete. Is there anyone out there who can confirm this or confirm that it just cannot be. Maybe the two talking were Ifishers. Do you know of the area, I have never fished for Sturgeon and with the fishing everywhere else being subpar I thought I would give it a shot. What do you use? What Rigging. Any help would be appreciated.

There are sturgeon from astoria to probably well above eugene and everywhere in between. The only place I've caught one in the area you speak of is off springhill drive directly off the north end of the golfcourse in a 50' hole (the deepest hole in the area) and it was a shaker caught on an anchovie. I was told by an area guru that the oversizers are mostly caught in the tailouts, not the deep part of the holes. Fresh killed 10 to 12" chub the best bait, ********* the next choice.

I'm guessing most of the sturgeon above OC falls are residents and are probably in the area year round.

which golf course? GCO or SpringHill? I couldnt find an area that looked like it had a hole that deep. I trudged around both areas and there were no areas hat looked like i could get down to fish them. Were you entering through Takena Landing? Banking it or boat?

Springhill and no, you'll never get to it from the bank. I'm sure it's a possibility to catch a sturgeon from the bank somewhere around Albany but I've never heard of it happening myself. My best guess would be to fish the bank immediately below the buena vista ramp or fish the deep hole right off the dock. Good luck... Joe

You guys would eat a sturgeon from the Willamette? I might go catch them for fun, but not to eat. We restrict our eating to the sea-run whites up at B10...

I looked again but didn't see anything about anyone eating a sturgeon from the willamette.

Fished all over the Willamette from Salem to almost Albany. Yes, there are sturgeon available. They are the ones that glow and are easy to spot. Fun to catch but I wouldn't recommend eating any of those that are pulled from that area. I was drifting down the mainstem Santiam a few years back and close to the mouth, looked down and two sturgeon spooked below my boat. Gave me a good rush to see those.
