coastal report
Spent the afternoon hunting the coast yesterday. Did alright for the ruffed (4 for 2 of us) and happened to blunder into two coveys of mt. quail but didn't get any of them. Saw lots of other critters. Busted up a herd of about 20 elk. Had this 5x6 bull just standing broadside to me at 30 yards for about 5 minutes. I was crouched down behind some trees cow calling and he kept looking around trying to pick me up. Pretty cool. Really wish they'd do that this weekend.
One of the other things I noticed is the number of bobcat I've been seeing this year. Yesterday I saw 2 and every time I've gone out grouse hunting this fall it seems like I've seen one. I think I've seen 6 in the past month, which is more than I usually see in a whole year. Anyone else seeing more cats than usual?
Finally I almost managed to fill my deer tag on the drive back home. Taking a corner probably a little too fast just outside of Alsea and standing right there on double yellow line is a doe. She froze as we sped past probably 2 feet from her. I never even had time to react, by the time it clicked that there was a deer there I had already gone past it. Good thing I didn't cut the corner.
