Had the distinct pleasure of hunting for the first three days of pheasant season in Eastern Oregon. The pheasant population seemed to be fair to good, especially considering the drought the area is experiencing. We got limits the first day easily, but the second day the birds were much more educated and took a lot more work to fill the bag. There also seemed to be healthier populations of chuckars and huns this year than years past. And the quail, they were thick. The little S.O.B.'s were everywhere! Tough to switch from shooting at a big old ringneck to a speedy little quail. All in all, a great trip, just got to remember to start the dogs conditioning WAY earlier next year. Both of them haven't even lifted their heads today, even to eat (if you have labs, you know how big a deal that is  ).
