Default west side any open gates yet?

Have any of the timber companies opened there lands to hunting? I have been out a couple of days and have found most lands closed due to fire danger, even after several days of rain. I havent been out in the last week or so and was just wondering if Willamette ind. Longview fiber or any of the others have opened the gates.

It seems that they have opened up most of the gates around the North Coast

Longview Fibre in Clackamas County has their gates open. Port Blakely has their gates closed, but allow people to walk in and hunt.

Olympic Forest Products based in Vernonia is opening the gates around Vernonia but here is a glitch that will make your drawers bunch up. The Standard Grade area between Cook Creek and Storey Burn Rd. is going to remain closed this year to all hunting. As if that is not enough plans are to lease the hunting rights to an exclusive bunch. John Hancock Insurance owns Olympic Forest Products and if this is their way of being a partner in the forest I want nothing to do with that company. I plan to write them and let them know. Too much private land is being turned into private hunt clubs. The elk that are in this area belong to the licensed hunters of this state that paid for years to manage them.
This sucks!!!!

Went out to the Stimpson land west of Gales Creek yesterday. It opened promptly at 6am. A small crowd was waiting. Quite pleasantly on that 34 degree morning.

I saw rubs, tracks, scat, and heard them crash through the woods every once and again. But never had an ethical shot.

Caught sight of the hind end of a black bear dissapearing into some thick brush. (Had my bear tag but wasn't chasing it into chest high, can't-see-your-waist brush.

All and all, a great day behind the open gates.
