Default Desolation Unit

My neighbor and I drew tags for elk in this unit. He told me today that he cant go due to work taking him out of town. Ofcourse he has hunted the area before and I have not. I am still going but in need of any info that someone would be willing to share. Thanks in advance!

It’s a good unit with lots of area to hunt. Depending on the weather the area around Olive Lake is always a good bet. You can take the 10 road out of Dale or come in from Granite. Stay in the log poll thickets and work the ridge tops. Its hard hunting but it pays off.

I would head into the wilderness. The best access I believe is from the north at Moon Meadows. There are also some trailheads around Olive lake from Granite. It's very rugged country but you won't be dissapointed. Don't worry about packing elk out from hell, someone with a horse will probably help. Even if you don't dive into a canyon there are elk purty much everywhere. Good luck.
