Default Squeeky pack

I looked at every fanny pack I could find before this season and settled on the Cabelas guide model fanny pack.

I love just about everything about it, except it squeeks some days and not others. The first couple of days it was sweet, then it squeeked the first time it got wet as I walked. It dried out and would squeek one day and not the next.  I think it is the nylon webbing where it is sewn on to the micro fibers, but am not sure. It is hard to tell just what is making the noise as I walk. I was thinking about trying to rub something on the webbing contact points as best I can access.

Does any body have any suggestions? I almost tried to use my chapstick one day it was so noisy, but the next it was perfectly quite.

I have 4 or 5 meat pack frames that are quite but my REI Wonderland pack frame that I used for backpacking for several years before the kids arrived also makes a lot of noise. I read several reports before I bought it and it was rated quite high at the time. I have always hated the way the free floating suspension system squeeks like a hungry mouse.

Any ideas how to quite these down??

The fanny part is not dragging on the ground is it? Then when you step up on a stump the squeak goes away.

Maybe you have the pack stretched too tight. Loosen up the straps unless they are already stretched to its limits.

Have you found that the pitch and volume of this noise is more pronounced the morning after you finished that third can of Nalleys Chili?
Maybe spread that Chapstick a little more liberally.

Sorry bait O' eggs I can't sit out of this one,

Was that squeeky pack or squeeky sack sp maybe..

anyways I have a suggestion on where you can put the whole chapstick to keep the rubbing cheeks...I mean squeeks from causing noise either one one can cause discomfort and this way you can eliminate two problems. One rubbing squeeks/cheeks and second would probably cut down on the scent trail you may be leaving from that chili you've been apparently eating.

For the purposes of it really being a squeeky pack if the webbing crosses in the back and depending on temperature you may be getting your squeeks from there.

all in spirit of chasing the wild wapati

thanks for all the helpful advise

Maybe I will just put some boot grease on the webbing where it meets the micro fiber and any place that it may cross its self and see if it quites down. I should be able to heat it up so it thins and penetrates well.

BOE...use parafin wax ( they use it for canning)
Lot cheaper than chapstick. Or you can use a candle, will work just as good and the candle is an emergency item so has a two fold purpose.

Think about it, a candle in the tent at night helps one to find them DooooooNuts.

Thanks cagey, the only reason I mentioned Chapstick is that is all I could find in camp that I thought might work at the time it was squeeking. It was kind of a long ways to town to buy something that might work. The cherry scent from the chapstick might have been a good attractant.

It was either chap stick or ear wax in camp, and since Waterdog wasnt there we were short on ear wax.

I almost forgot the straps were they go through the plastic buckles will also sometimes squeek. Especially when they were using the really smooth finish buckles now they use a more matte/rough finish that doesn't squeek. How about that  another less offending use for that chapstick. I agree the parafin wax would be better. As a matter of fact I think I will put some in the camper for hunting season I can think of a few other uses never mind I don't need any suggestions...

One thing I did to really quiet my pack was to add fleece to it. The pack was already made of fleece, but there were certain parts that were no covered and the webbing on the straps was noisy, so I went to Wal-mart and bought some camo fleece, cut and used fabric glue to add it to places that needed it and made some sleeves out of it for the straps. I covered the shoulder straps (it also added padding) and the waist strap. By covering the waist strap it slides over the buckle so it won't rub on any branches.

To quiet down where it squeeks I would be careful what you use, remember that it will be getting cold and stiffening up and then getting hot and running all over the pack. Candle wax may work pretty good. As an added bonus you could always use you pack as a fire starter if you get lost
