Default Trask?

I was wondering if anyone had a clue about deer in the Trask unit? I have doe and buck tags and just want to get a deer. My dad went over the weekend by the Nestucca and saw no deer. He did see a bunch of fresh bear sign and one bear and of course no tag.

Thanks Robert.

I hunt the Trask unit for elk and was surprised last year by seeing mostly deer. We were driving to our hunting spot and every morning we would see 5-10 deer, mostly does. I would give the same thing a try, go early, find the areas where they hang out and then start your stalk...
I am going up there after work and will try to give a report.

Hi Robert, Try the FanCreek area up on the Nestucca.. Lots of deer in there but they are hard to hunt. If you go up Fan Creek you will see what appears to be an old road or trail on your left. Get back in there and hide yourself real good. Deer move through that area from Ginger Creek canyon over into the FanCreek canyon. Weather needs to be on the snotty side to get them moving real good during the daylight. Pretty good area if you have the time to stick it out. Good luck to you. Cagey

I was up there today with my daughter. We covered a lot of ground considering I worked a half day. No deer or elk to be found. They are clearcutting the upper canyon where we normally hunt, so time to find a new area.

I did get 1 grouse and wasn't fast enough to get another. Always hard to decide if I should grab the shotgun or the rifle when I get out. Statistically speaking I should get it right 1/2 the time, not never.....

I plan to scout a lot before elk season, I will let you know what I find..
