Default Preferred Halitbut reels?

I'm currently using a Penn Senator 113 for Halibut duties. It does the job well. With the 2:1 gear ratio it takes me longer to crank up my gear than my buddies who use the Penn 345 GTIs.

So I'm looking to invest on a better reel that will have the cranking power without musculing every turn of the crank and a has some speed. I do like the 4/0 size. 2 speed reels? Any ideas? Budget wise, I'd like to stay under $500. Thanks!

I took my 345GTI's and put the 4:1 gears in them. You would think this would be a good thing, but it became even more tiring to crank the weight off the boottom at the ranch. Going back to the 3.25:1 gears was much less tiring to bring up - more cranks, but less force per crank to wear you out.

So, I don't think that a 2-speed with high ratio is going to be useful for deep water heavy weight retrieves. 345's and the large crank handle from Harry's are hard to beat.

I have a Penn 114HLW, it wasn't that bad at 2.8:1.
But, if I had the money, the reel I want can be described in
one word.

Electric.

one reel that fits what your asking is the Avet EXW 2 speed it has 4:1 on high speed and when you need to winch up your catch it has a 2:1 for low gear. you can get these for $359 from Charkbait online. They are the same size as a 113 in line capacity. I have 700 yards of 80lb spectra.

shimano trinidad 30. I was severely impressed by this reel. I expected it to be tough on the cranking arm but even with the higer gear ratio 6.2:1 It was dreamy smooth and easy. its gucci ($400)but I'd buy it if I had the dough... till I strike it rich my penn 330 will do just fine.

I like my PENN 340 GTI BUTT an electric 345 GTI would be great for Halibut.

Avet JX2..but I defer to others who fish your deep waters...I am spoiled with nice hali at 160-200'

I have also found the charbait folks to be super to deal with.
