Default help please!

First of all I would like to ask everyone to forgive my ignorance in advance and thank anyone kind enouph to lend some help or advice to a first time hunter!

Earlier this year a good friend of mine asked me if I would like to try Elk hunting this year. Only half expecting to pull tags or even be able to go if I did, I agreed and we went ahead and put in. Eventually we got the cards from ODFW and found we had pulled hair tags for Heppner. Cool, I thought, but I still did not expect to be able to go due to wifes career, my job, and kids. A miracle happened though, and the stars all lined up so now here I am completely unprepared and faced with the daunting task of getting ready for a first time elk hunt a few weeks before the season.

So here are my questions, I think I can handle the hunting part. Ive fished hard all my life, and grew up in the woods, I know how to shoot, Ive tracked lots of elk, deer, and everything else, just never hunted them. Im confident that I have a fair chance of getting an animal, especially with a hair tag. Its the what to do once I get one that has me worried.

So here I am up in the Heppner woods, Ive got a big dead Elk, now what? Im sure my buddy will help me, I just dont want to look like a total fool out there. Does anyone know a decent web page or other resource where I could learn up on the subjects of field dressing? Also, what sort of equipment will i need? A good knife of course, bone saw, elk bags? Any tips on caring for the carcass, getting it to the butcher, etc....? I am totally ignorant and need all the help I can get!!!!

Thanks again for any advice, and try not to lauph too hard, Thanks!

I have never had the pleasure of field dressing a big game but I typed it in and this is what I found.
